Countless philosophers, self-help experts, religious leaders, and individuals throughout time have talked about the power of gratitude. We live in a world of negativity and materialism, where we are saturated with the idea that if we don't have more, more, more, then we don't have enough. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect and acknowledge all of the good things we have. It is paradoxical, because at the same time we celebrate Thanksgiving, our retail world is bombarding us with the idea that we have to shop 'til we drop for all the latest gear, fashions, deals, and frankly, just stuff. Have you noticed how the Christmas decorations and advertisements are out now before HALLOWEEN?! It's nuts! While we should be celebrating the good in our lives-what really matters--like family, friendships, food, a comfortable house, and the necessities to live, the barrage of commercials tries to send us the message that we need more (in the form of material goods).
Think about these questions for a minute: What good is a nice outfit to wear if you don't have the people to wear it with to go out and have fun? What good is a new Lexus (I'm speaking of this because of the commercial each year with the new car in the driveway with the giant red bow on the hood) without your friends to go cruising with? What good is a new smartphone without the buddies to text or Snapchat with? Why do you think that envy is one of the seven deadly sins? Because we are constantly focusing on what we DON'T have compared to what others DO, instead of focusing on what we do have, which if you take stock, is probably enough. Someone always has a better car, a better appearance, a better pair of shoes, a better job, a better life. With the dawn of the twentieth century, we have seen a rise in consumerism, which is the preoccupation with the acquisition of consumer goods. Now more than ever are we pushed to acquire material things, brand-name things. Do they make us better people? No. It's just stuff. Think about the storage business, hoarding tendencies. There is just too much stuff! Henry David Thoreau once said, "Money is not required to buy one necessary of the soul." So true! What nourishes our soul are our relationships with others and our appreciation for the good things in life--beautiful nature, watching innocent children, coming home to a comfortable house at the end of a long day, the ability to travel and explore, our hobbies and interests, our talents--but most of all, the chance to start over if we need to at the dawn of the next day.
Sure life isn't all rainbows and butterflies. We will experience challenges, defeats, losses, unimaginable heartache, and other negativity at times. I have had my share, but I have always managed to focus on the good things in my life, rather than the bad. Remember, it is our perspective of things that determines our outlook of life. The people who choose to dwell on the negative instead of looking at the positive sadly go through life unhappy or unfulfilled. Stop each day and be mindful of what you are grateful for. For me, I am grateful for the simple fact that I have everything I could ever need--a wonderful family, three amazing kids, a few close friends, a job I enjoy (most of the time), and a cozy bed (I like sleep!). I am grateful for all the advantages that living in the United States affords me and for the freedoms I have, which I too often take for granted. For this week's blog, give your thoughts about gratitude and about the things for which you are grateful this year. Have a great week!

ReplyDeleteI try to be a grateful person. When things go wrong I try to think positively. I think like what is the point of being sad and hating your life when you can just be happy. Happiness isn't something that is achieved it is something you create. So you can be happy whenever you want if you want to be. Gratitude is a big thing that goes into happiness. You could have the worst day ever but even being grateful for the pretty sunset or seeing your dog when you come home can really change your outlook. I am really grateful for my good health. Overall I am a healthy person and don't get sick that often. I'm also really thankful for my current friends. I really love the people that I am friends with. I am so grateful and they make me laugh and have a good time. I'm very grateful for my job and the friends that I made at work. They make work something I enjoy and look forward to, plus I'm making money. I love my car too and my phone and just everything is really great.
I think that there is not enough gratitude going around the world today. Everyone on social media is complaining about something making them upset recently, but they only complain and never take a step back and realize what they have. The fact that they are even on social media show how lucky they are to even have the opportunity to connect with people like that. There are people in third world countries that live happier than many of us, and I think one of the reasons is because they are grateful for what they have. I am no saint, when I find myself in a bad mood its hard to be grateful for everything I have, I think this is just because I have been spoiled my whole life and am fairly used to it. But I try my best to realize how lucky I am. I have a good family, I am healthy, I am not underfed or under clothed, and I have a roof to live under. I am also grateful to have people in my life to spend time with and that love me.

DeleteHaving gratitude is a very important aspect in life. I don't think people value it enough. In today's world, people are always focused on what they don't have rather than what they do. I try to show gratitude daily for the things I have. I am very thankful for my family and friends. The relationships in my life is what I value most. I am also grateful for the opportunities in my life including academics and sports. Overall, I think I am a positive person and tend to focus on the good in my life. I understand how much I have and am grateful for that everyday. It is important not to get so wrapped up in society but to take a step back and remember what truly matters in life.

Deletei think being grateful helps in life because when you show gratitude people will appreciate it. gratitude is something thank you feel when something good goes you way.
I believe I am grateful for the things in my life. I have never really been much of a materialistic person or cared too much about buying the nest best thing. If what I have makes me happy then it is enough for me. Even though something bad may happen I often try and look for the positive within. I believe in some way you can always find something positive. That positive thing you find is something to be grateful for. I am very grateful with all that I have. I am grateful for my family and friends. I am grateful for having the opportunists I have. I am able to recognize that I am a very fortunate person as I may have and be able to do things that many can not. I am grateful for that and know not to take things for granted. Sure there may be times where I may not be content with things or may want more, but that is a natural emotion to feel. I just have to remind myself that I am very lucky and to be grateful for what I have.

DeleteGratitude is something that is very important in my life. I always try to focus on the great things that I have instead of the things I do not have. I wouldn't consider myself as a materialistic person because, for the most part, I don't care about the newest inventions. I am very grateful for the many things I have been blessed with. My family and friends are the most important things in my life and I feel so lucky to have them. Another thing that I am grateful for is the ability to play travel soccer. I understand how expensive club sports are and I am very thankful that my parents are willing to sacrifice some things in order for me to be able to play. Overall, I try my best to focus on myself and the things that I do possess. I know that I am very blessed to live the life that I do.

DeleteI am grateful for everything I have in life. That does not just mean material things either. I am grateful for all of the people who have helped me in life. I am grateful for every piece of advise or information that I have received that has helped me in anyway. I am also grateful for all of the material things that I have as well. I think that everyone no matter who you are should be grateful for all of the things that has helped them in life. If people are not grateful those are the kinds of people that nobody likes. These are the people who no matter what they have will still not be happy. This is a very bad thing. It is always good to be grateful no matter what. Ethan O'Pake

ReplyDeleteI am truly grateful for my friends and family. Everyone that I surround myself with everyday has a positive impact on me. All of my friends help me to remain happy and give me people to talk to. My family is the most caring group of people that I know. I can always go to them when I need help, and they know I will help them when they need it. I am very grateful for this relationship. I am also grateful for my fortune. My parents work hard for everything that we have. They even pay for us to go to private school to ensure that we get the proper education we need for life. I wish that more people would realize that they need to be content somewhere. Although, it is very good to strive for greatness, we need to realize that we need and deserve breaks to enjoy what we have earned. I feel that most people have forgotten about this. People need to stop for a second and look around. They need to realize how lucky they are for the things and people that they have around them. I also feel that people see rich people on social media and feel worthless because they will never be as rich as them. However, if we surround ourselves with good, caring people, and treat others with respect, we are very likely to live a happier life than the rich people on social media. Money does not always lead to happiness, especially if we do not have anyone to share it with. We need to be thankful for what others do for us. This is very important to strengthen relationships with others and to grow as a person. Being thankful will lead to a happier lifestyle overall. I believe that I do a pretty good job at being thankful for what God has given me as well as what others do for me. This has lead to happiness in my life.
Gratitude is so important and I do not think people value it enough. We need to think about everything we have and everything that have earned. It is so great to have thanksgiving because we are around by the people and things we are thankful to have with us. We need to be able to see these things rather than see the things others have because that is a bad way to go through life. When we always desire the "best things," we think, that life has to offer we see someone else with something better and we want that. If we go through life wanting something at all times and not seeing what we already have then we will miss all the moments we will want to think about when our life in coming to a close and we might even be all alone and no one wants that or should be alone.
ReplyDeleteI try to be grateful for everything I have in life. I have been very fortunate to grow up in an amazing family, a nice house, never having to worry about food or money, and having the opportunity to go to a great school. I’m so thankful for my amazing friends, all the fun memories we’ve made and experiences we’ve gone through together. Gratitude has been one of the most important lessons taught to me by my parents, and to much is given much is expected. Since we are blessed in many ways, we should give back to our community as much as we can, to those less fortunate than us. I feel like our world would be a better place if more people recognized and acted on this. It is better to go about your life thinking about how grateful you are for the things you have rather than always wishing for materialistic things. The saying money can’t buy you happiness is true.
ReplyDeletegratitude is something thank you feel when something good goes you way. i personally am grateful for my family and friends. without them i would be where i am today.
ReplyDeleteGratitude is a concept that most people today let easily slip their mind. There have been countless times where I have been out at stores and I've seen children, and even teenagers, throw fits or tantrums just because their parents don't let them get what they want. I try not to stare when people act this way, but it's hard not to when I see someone my age talk back to their parent over a pair of jeans! I feel that being grateful is something that gets lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and we need to stop and focus more on. I know that I would always like to have a new pair of dance shoes or a the nicest makeup money can buy, but I know that materialistic goods aren't what is most important in our short lives here on Earth. Instead, it is who we spend that time with and the connections with make with those around us. I am so thankful for all of the loyal and caring friends I have in my life. They are the ones who will always be there for me whenever I need help and have my back at all times. I don't think a new Iphone could provide me the same amount of enjoyment and satisfaction that my friends do. In addition, as I've gotten older I've greatly learned the importance of family and setting aside time to spend with my loved ones. Since both of my older siblings no longer live with us, I now realize how special our times are we they are spent together and I greatly cherish all the memories we have made together. I am always greatful whenever they are able to come home for the holidays or fly back into town to come watch me perform. I know that it isn't easy for them to drop everything in their lives and fly to a whole different state. Whenever they do, I am always very thankful and appreciative in knowing that they support me in what I love to do. All in all, I am very grateful for my family and friends and know that the true meaning of happiness isn't held in materialistic objects, but in the strong connections I hold with the people I care most about.
ReplyDeleteIn today’s world, most my age and people in general are not grateful for all they have. They automatically think “my parents are supposed to do that.” But I do think I am a grateful person. I always try to look at the positive side to things, even if there might not be anything positive that comes out of the circumstance. I may not have the newest or fanciest of everything, I don’t care about having the newest inventions. If something makes me happy then I am grateful for it, no matter what. If you are overall more positive and grateful with things or events in your life most of the time the more of a happier and humble you are.Thinking negatively all the time and believing stuff should just get handed to you will make you into a person no one wants to be around. I am grateful for my family, friends, all the things I have, and the opportunities I have in my life.
ReplyDeleteI think that gratitude is a very important thing if you want to live a happy life. You have to recognize all that you have been blessed with if you want to be happy. I am very grateful for my friends and family. I am also grateful that we have a house and food to eat every day. I am also grateful for my education. Sometimes I forget how much I have been blessed with and take them for granted which is not good. For the most part I try to stay positive and put time into the things and people that I am grateful for.
ReplyDeleteI try to be as grateful as I possibly can, especially around this time of the year. Christmas is a time of giving, and it doesn't always have to be expensive gifts. Someone could give me a handmade card or an ornament, and I'd be as grateful as I possibly could because I know they worked hard on that gift.
ReplyDeleteTo me, gratitude is being appreciative of the good and loving intentions of others. It is thanking someone for the kindness they've shown you by returning that kindness. I always keep in mind that when I receive a gift, though it may not be one that I want, I know the giver of the gift had good intentions, and I'm grateful that they even thought of me.
honestly i dont think there are enough greatful people in the world anymore the new generation of kids is growing up with more and more acessability to everything and tv shows or online shopping sites appeal to there aduience for sales. and when a kid sees this they immendiatly want it and its not always in the price range so they cant get it. honestly i dont think people relize how much they have compared to other people and truly think its a problem. there are people in the world who have never seen or watching tv or even slept on a bed. i think we all have to relize how much we have and just be greatful for it all even if its not a lot just be greatful for what you have cause it could be so much worse
ReplyDeleteEvery year around this time, we are called to reflect and think about everything we are so fortunate to have and to be thankful for. While we say the same thing every year, how much of it do we really mean? We need to seriously express our feelings or gratitude for everything we are so fortunate to have-family, friends, food, clothes, and all of our other possessions- not only around thanksgiving, but frequently throughout the year. I know that I am so very fortunate to have a loving family, wonderful friends, and all of the necessities to life. To be quite frank, I sometimes take these things for granted. A lot of people lack these things, so I remind myself that I am very lucky to have all of these things. Life isn't about all of the materialistic things that we own, but the people we meet, the experiences we undergo and the memories we make. We need to cherish all of these things much more than our longing to get the newest phone, for example. Around the holidays, I am always so happy when my family all gets together to spend time together, and it really makes me cherish the time spent together. The holidays are a good time to express our gratitude for our blessings in life, but we should try and be more grateful every day on this Earth, for every day is a gift.
ReplyDeleteI am very grateful for the many things I have in my life. Sometimes, I take them for granted or worry about the things I do not have rather than the many things I have been given. Keeping a positive mindset is important because it can help change your perspective of life. It teaches you to weigh the good with the bad. It also teaches you how to appreciate life and be thankful for everything you have. I am grateful for my family and friends. Without them, I would not be the same person I am today. I am also grateful for the roof over my head, the school I go to, the food and water in my house, and the chance to start over every day. As stated in the blog, each day is a new day to start over. We can begin a new day with a positive attitude and focus on the good things in life. - Addison Talone
ReplyDeleteGratitude is an idea that after reading the article, has come clear to me that alot of people don't understand or have at this point in time. People always want more and there's phrases like "don't settle for less" or "you're worth more and don't settle for less" but in some cases settling for less is ok. it won't diminish the person in anyway. In some cases, not settlig and attempting for more can be harmful to the person. So settling for less is ok sometimes. I am grateful for what I have in my life. My "family", the roof over my head, clothes on my back, food to eat, I am grateful for all of that. I am also grateful for the school i go to, the people I'm around, and all the possessions I have.
ReplyDeleteGratitude is a very important trait to have when it comes to a person. I feel like people do not respect the idea of gratitude. There were a lot of things I was grateful for over the past year. The first thing I was thing I was grateful for was that my whole family stayed healthy through out the whole lock down. Another thing was grateful for was we were bale to have our family vacation at the beach. I hope I am able to make more memories through the tough times.

DeleteI try to be as grateful and open minded about most things but sometimes I fall short. I try and remember I have a lot of great things in my life and some people are less fortunate than I am. Although I try to be grateful and for the most part I am but I'm not always and sometimes I need to remind myself of that. After all Thanksgiving is a time we reflect on what we are thankful for such as family and friends. Gratitude is showing thankfulness and that you care about something or someone. If someone gets you a gift you can show gratitude by not only saying thank you but by writing them a letter or doing a favor for them out of the kindness of your heart to show that you care. I think we all take things for granted sometimes and we just need to remember that some people don't get to wake up and eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

ReplyDeleteI am very grateful and fortunate for everything in my life. I do take a lot of things for granted though. For example, I never have to worry about having food on the table or a roof over my head so I need to start appreciating that more and realize that I am very lucky to have these things. Around this time of year we always talk about all the things we're grateful for but shouldn't we be doing that all year? I am very grateful for family, friends, and opportunities in my life. Without my family and friends I wouldn't be the person I am today because they helped me grow. I am very lucky to have the opportunities to explore and try new things as well as go to a good school. The holidays are a perfect time to keep a positive attitude and express all that we are thankful for.
Everyday I try my best to be grateful and happy for everything i have. I try to remember all the great things that I have and that I am very fortunate to be where i am and have the things I have. Like everyone else, I do sometimes take things for granted and am not grateful sometimes. I am very grateful for my family, friends and everyone else in my life who has helped me grow to the person that I am today. I am very lucky to have the opportunities that I am given everyday and I try to remember all I have.
ReplyDeleteGratitude is a very good attribute to carry with you because it truly shows how grateful you are of those around you. Not many people think about how much gratitude they have on a daily or even weekly basis. Too many people in the world today find the negative in every situation and completely set aside the positive. I know that personally I am not always grateful, but I try to remain humble. I am specifically grateful for my friends and family. They are always around for me and have my back when I need it most. Over the past few years I have begin to realize that materialistic items are nothing compared to the bonds that we form with our family and friends. Materials don't allow us to make memories, but those who share with us do.
ReplyDeleteThrough out my life I try to be as grateful as I possibly can towards others. I personally feel that giving someone a gift and seeing them appreciate it is a very good feeling. So, we should all try to make people happy by being grateful for the things they give us. We also have to look at our own lives and see how grateful we should be for all of the basic necessities that we are able to easily access, like food and the internet. I definitely look at other peoples lives that seem so glamorous on social media and feel jealous. However, I feel that social media is the main reason there is so much hatred towards each other. I was always told that the great life people show on social media, with all of their fancy clothes and technology, is usually not what their regular life is like. This helps me look at everything and realize that having a good life is not all about how many expensive personal belongings you have. Having a good relationship with your family and cherishing your friends are two of the most important things in my life. Everyday I am very grateful that I have people that will stick with me no matter what and support me. Being away from my friends during quarantine made me realize how important they are to me, so now I appreciate them even more. I think that everyone can face some jealousy at any point in their life, but we all need to work on being grateful for what we have and making the best of our lives.
ReplyDeleteI think gratitude is not as used as it should be. People complain and get down over things they don't have but don't realize how much they really do have and how fortunate they are. I never complain about things I don't have and I work to get those things I desire while appreciating what I do have. People in the US really need to be fortunate sometimes and appreciative of what they can do and what they do have because it always can be a lot worse.
ReplyDeleteBrady O'Pake
I think in my life I try to show as much gratitude as I can but sometimes I just forget. I also think that showing gratitude toward others is something that can make them feel better so I try to do it as often as I can. I try to realize that I have so much in my life and that I should be very grateful. Sometimes I find myself asking for so much stuff that I don't actually need and I realize that I should be grateful for what I have instead of asking for more. This year I am grateful for so many things. First I am grateful that we got to come back to school and I got to see my friends even if it is ending soon. I am also grateful for my family because during quarantine I really only saw them and they always made sure thats I wasn't super bored.
ReplyDeleteAll of the material things in life mean nothing if you do not have the things that matter the most. You can have all the fashion, the best cars and all the money in the world but you can still be miserable. Happiness comes from the people you surround yourself with and the things that you do to make you happy. Without friends, family and joy in your life, can you really be happy? During Thanksgiving everyone should be Thankful for these things even though there are so many material goods being advertised. I am Thankful for my great friends who I can always count on, my family who is always there and supportive. I can be thankful for the ability to do the things I love whether it involves playing sports and listening to the music I like or surrounding myself with all the people I love. I am thankful for the good life that has been provided for me. I have so many blessings in my life and this year I can recognize and be thankful for each and every one of them.
ReplyDeleteKayla Croiger
DeleteSometimes I think it could be a bit difficult to be grateful for what we have and what God has given us, especially with everything that is going on this year. Thanksgiving is a holiday were people gather 'round with their family, friends, and loved ones. This year it is difficult to travel to be with family or to go to a friendsgiving in the middle of a pandemic and it can make us feel sad. However, many people have died in this country but we must remain thankful to God that we are still here. Even though we can't hug each other, we have technology to still be there with one another.
ReplyDeleteAs for envy, my parents have always taught us to be grateful for what we have. There are many people in the world who are less fortunate than us but remain positive. If we focus in the things we don't have, we'll never enjoy the things we do.
Xochitl Cruz
DeleteI think gratitude is a very important thing that there is not enough of. I know that sometimes it can be hard to be happy with what we have because we always see people with more than us. We have to try to remind ourselves that we have so many things and there are some people that do not have anything, whether it is material items or relationships with family or friends. I try my best to remember all the great things that I do have and focus on my blessings. I don't think I am a very materilistic person because I really don't feel the need to go and buy the newest version of things, especially when I already have something like it. I am so grateful for my family and friends that I can always count on. Especially with what is going on in our world right now, we need to be grateful. We have to remember our health and be happy that there are still things that we can do, considering a lot of events being cancelled. Overall, I think family, friends, and experiences are much more important to have than material items. I would much rather have healthy relationships with people and do fun things with them, rather than have money or material items. If we always focus on what we don't have, we will never be happy, so we have to appreciate the things we do have.
ReplyDeleteGratitude is something that we are taught to have as kids. But, gratitude is definitely not everyone's strongest trait. I always remind myself to stay humble and be grateful because it says a lot about your character. Gratitude is the quality of being thankful. Although we are told to be humble, we must apply it to everyday life. I am grateful for my school, family, friends, home and food. With Thanksgiving coming up it's good to remember that gratitude is something we should always keep in mind.
ReplyDeleteGrace Fuges
DeleteI think right now the world is very ungrateful. Everyone is so focused on materialistic things that they don't even recognize the most important things in life. In the end, all of the money and objects won't matter at all. Just stop and think about all of the things money can't buy in your life. Those are the things that matter most such as friends and family. It is sad to think about all of the things that we take for granted on a daily basis such as a roof over our heads, food and water, school, clothes, family, friends, clean air, and so on. It is always important to be thankful for all we have. Being grateful will make your overall mood and outlook on life happier.
ReplyDeleteGratitude is the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. I think at times we all lack the value of gratitude. Even the small things that are in our everyday life we should show our gratitude and thankfulness to. Not having to worry about where out next meal is coming from, a roof over our head, and having a cell phone is somethings that we might take for granted. Sometimes we do not realize that these things are things people would dream of having. For us, we don't have to worry about it. We live in a country that is free. We can wear what we want, we can believe in our own religion we have the freedom of speech and so many more things. We take all of that for granted because we are so lucky. I am so grateful to be able to have all of that. I am also grateful to have my family close by, to be able to come home to a house, to see my dogs, to talk to my friends, to be who I am, to be able to go to Catholic school and so many more things. Reflecting on all of the good things in your life is a good way to stay positive.
ReplyDeleteThere is not enough gratitude in today's world. Everyone is focused on things that will only give you partial happiness in life. Phones are a huge part of this issue. Everyone is so attached to them and it takes away from real life interactions. If people are on there phones less, they will be more grateful for their friendships and other things that bring true happiness. I do not see myself as ungrateful because I appreciate the times when people go out of their way to do something for me. I am grateful for the friendships I have built over the years and for my family. My family and friends are two of things I am most grateful for because they bring me the most joy. I am also grateful for the ability to play golf. My parents pay for most of my equipment, tournaments, etc., so I really appreciate all that they do for me.
ReplyDeletePaul Brady
I am grateful for everything I have. I can admit that sometimes I think about what I do not have that other people do have. I try to remember that I have family and friends, a house, clothes, which some people do not even have home. I realize I am very fortunate to be able play sports which is a simple thing but many people do not have the physical ability or opportunity to do it. I think a lot of people are very ungrateful and focus on getting more and more and not appreciating what they have. Especially today we should all be thankful for the rights we have. I am extremely grateful to have my rights and live in America. I think that our freedoms are something a lot of people take for granted.Another big thing that i am very appreciative is my parents. They pay for my softball team, my equipment, to go to Catholic school and many more things. They keep a roof over my head and food on the table. I think sometimes we take our parents to granted but then realize not everyone has parents. I think we all just nee to be a little more grateful for everything in our lives and realize we are living with thing some people do not have.
ReplyDeleteI am very grateful for all the things I have. I have a lot of friends and family that care bout me and I do a lot in my free time. I play football with my buddies, and play cyo basketball. Then I play on my playstation with my friends. I am glad that I have the freedom to do all of these things. If we didnt have freedom some of this stuff couldnt be done. I am so grateful I have all this stuff because I know someone like me on the other side of the world might not have the same freedoms as me.
ReplyDeleteI am a very grateful person. I know how lucky I am to go to PJP and do all the things I do. I'm thankful for the friends I've mad here and all the memories I have. I may not be a popular person here but to me that doesn't matter. I still have a lot of friends and I know a lot of people. I wouldn't want my life any other way. If I feel down I 9/10 have my friends to pick me up and be there for me. I have an awesome life and I wouldn't change a thing. I have friends from soccer, track, school, but mainly Rhapsodies and the Spring Show. I've made more friends then I thought I would freshman year. The freedom we have in America is amazing. We are a country who fought for the freedom we have now and we got it. That just reminds me how I can do anything I put my mind to.
ReplyDeleteGratitude is a trait that in today's society is often forgotten about. We constantly hear people gloat about what they have or we hear people complaining that they don't have enough. Being the middle child of 4 boys isn't always the greatest experience for me. I was only the youngest child for 2 years, so I don't remember anything of what it is like to be treated as the youngest. As I grew up, I was jealous of my older brother and my younger brothers because of the things they got, or the times they weren't yelled at but I was. But, I grew to realize that material things aren't permanent, and I shouldn't let temporary things anger me. I grew up to be thankful for what I had. Because I had such a big family, I never got the newest toys or technology, but I'm thankful for that. I learned what it meant to cherish what is given to me and to realize that not all people are in the same place in life. That is why I'm thankful to have a big family to enjoy my life with. -Dan Newell
ReplyDeleteHaving gratitude is a very important aspect in life.
ReplyDeleteGratitude is very important but many people, including myself, sometimes overlook it. It is easy to get caught up in life’s problems. Everyone is under a lot of stress and pressure, especially during the current situation in the world. Outlets like social media make it easy for people to complain about their problems. I spend a lot of time on social media and sometimes start feeling negative too. Being surrounded by this negativity contributes to others’ negative thoughts and the spiral continues. However, I believe it is very important to remember to be grateful for what I have. Whenever I get overwhelmed or upset about something that is going wrong, I try to remember everything I have in life to be grateful for. This helps me to realize that life isn’t that bad. Everything is based on perspective. While I might think that everything is going wrong for me, if I take into consideration everyone else in the world, it is clear that I am very blessed. Doing this whenever I feel upset has helped me to learn to be more grateful. I am grateful for many things. While I am grateful for materialistic things such as my house and bed, I am also extremely grateful for all the people in my life. My friends and family are very important to me and I wouldn’t be the same without them. I am grateful for them because I know that they truly care about me. We have made countless memories together that I will cherish forever. I wouldn’t trade my experiences with my friends and family for anything. However, I sometimes take these things for granted. When I take the lives of others into perspective, who may not have family members to care for them or friends to laugh with, I realize how truly lucky I am.
ReplyDeleteThe most important thing to be in life is grateful. We will never achieve anything if we take for granted what we have. Sometimes it is good to stop and reflect on everything you are grateful for just to stay positive and appreciative! This year was a tough year for many people and personally I wasn't affected too badly. I am beyond greatful for that. I am also greatful for finding a great group of friends. They are some of the best people and we love hanging out together every chance we get. I am grateful for all the opportunities I have in volleyball. I play on an exclusive national team with world renounced coaches and get to play in some of the country's biggest tournaments. I am grateful for my family as a whole, my health, my dog and my education. I am grateful I get to go to an amazing school that will help me prepare for my future. It's important to reflect on everything you are grateful for so you can not take anything for granted because one day, it could all be gone.
ReplyDeleteGratitude is something that everyone lacks in sometime in their life. I have lacked in gratitude times in my life and I am not proud of it, but I also see different people my age and think of how ungrateful they can be compared to me. I used to take people extremely close to me for granted and I have matured and grown out of this with time. Since 9th grade I have become more grateful with everything in my life and now I truly see how lucky I am for many things. I am lucky to have great friends who make an effort to stay close with me even though I don't see them every day in school, I am grateful for my family and the support my parents provide me with everything I do, I am grateful for athletics, I am grateful for a working car, I am grateful that I am not discriminated against, I am grateful for all the living essentials like a house, a meal every night, a bed to sleep in, clean water to drink, and a safe environment to live in. At times I used to forget where I could be or how things could be worse and I have learned to step back and appreciate these things in my life I am grateful for.

DeleteGratitude is very important to me. I try to focus on the great things that I have instead of the things I dont.. I am
ReplyDeletegrateful for the things I have been blessed with. My family and friends are the most important things in my life. I am so
lucky to have them. IM also thankful for going to this school. I understand how expensive school isand I am very
thankful that my parents are willing to sacrifice some things in order for me to be able to go here.I try my best to focus
on myself and the things that I have in my life . I know that I am very blessed.
Being grateful for what I have is important to me. While sometimes I feel as though I don't truly show my gratitude, I'm always grateful for what I have. Gratitude is something there isn't enough of in our world. People constantly focus on the things they want and don't have. If we were thankful for what we do have and show are gratitude we would all be a lot happier.
ReplyDeleteBeing grateful is very important to me. I think some people take for granted what they have and need to realize that there are people who are much less fortunate. There is so much to be grateful for and so many ways to give back to the less fortunate. Right now our world is not very grateful and they focus a lot on the negative. I think we need to start focusing on the positives and we will all start to live a happier life. I am very grateful for my friends and family. They are so important to me and I don't know what I would do without them. I am also grateful to be able to go to a Catholic school because I know my parents sacrifice a lot for me to go here to get a good education.
ReplyDeleteI believe that everyone in this world has something to be grateful for. Sometimes its the people who have the least, who have the most positive outlook on life. Wealth, possesions, and materialistic things cannot buy one's happiness. The majority of people get wrapped up in what they don't have or don't have, and compare themselves to others. I am subject to this as well, and I need to stop and remind myself of the bigger picture. I am so blessed and have a great life, and sometimes I find myself caring too much aout the small stuff. Being ungrateful is not a good trait to carry with you. You want to surround yourself with people who are not bratty and know the importance and value of everyhting they have. I would like to work on stopping and thinking about what I am grateful for, because their is truely a lot.

ReplyDeleteAs the years go on and the big holidays come around like Thanksgiving and Christmas I tend to think about the things that I am grateful for. Like my family and for the good health they have and with Corona, praying and being grateful for goodhealth is a big thing. Especially since I have day a few family member get corona this year. Another thing I'm thankful for is the effort my family puts into the holidays. They always try to go above and beyong for the Thanksgiving and Christmas and since we probably wont be seeing each other for Thanksgiving I have no doubt they're going to try and make up for at Christmas, even though they really shouldn't. Now that I'm getting older along with my other cousins we are realizing the amount of presents our grandparents give us are a little much. Though we are very grateful for all that they do for us, the pit in my stomach just seems to grow every year with the money they are spending on six grandchildren. I try to be grateful for everything I get becuase some people aren't able to have the nice things we get.
I view gratitude as one of the most important things to have in life. Gratitude is something that I want to perfect, because I want to thank all the people that have helped me become the person I am today. Thanksgiving is one of the most important times of the year to be grateful to others, but we should be grateful to people all the time. We should be telling people how much we appreciate them all the time not just once a year. I am especially thankful for my family, and my friends. My family has helped me through all of my ups and downs, and I can not describe what they mean to me. I will always be thankful for everyone in my family, and everything they do to me. I am thankful for my friends because my friends are the ones that keep me happy, and make me happy when I am upset. My friends are always there for me, and will always be one of the first people I call when I am in a bad situation. To conclude, I believe that we should show gratitude to all those who have helped us this Thanksgiving, and we should hope they feel the same way about us. This is why Thanksgivng is one of the most important holidays of the year.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, gratitude is a complete necessity for happiness and an important value to carry through life. Typical everyday stressors/obstacles in the world have been known to overshadow the brightside. But reflecting on our blessings in life, reminds us of what really brings us true happiness. I am incredibly grateful for the unending support provided by my parents, my goofy twin sister that I get to tease on a daily basis, my fun friends, the close relationships I have with my extended family, my adorable pets, a comfortable lifestyle, good education, and being able to participate in all the hobbies that i’m passionate about. When I reflect on the goodness in life, I realize how much I lucked out and find myself immensely grateful for those blessings.

DeleteGratitude is something that we could all have more of. I think that every one may take what they have for granted sometimes and that everyone should be more thankful for what they own. I do not think people need expensive brand name stuff or nice cars and those things are luxuries. If you are able to have that stuff you should be gracious you can own it and shouldn't be asking for more. I also think envy is a big part of everyone's life. People always fixate on what more they could have or the materials that other people have. Envy makes us overlook the things we have that we may not consider so great but to other people they would be considered luxuries. I know right now it is hard for people to be gracious for what they have because of everything going on in our world. People find it to be much easier to complain about what is wrong rather than look for the things they should be happy to have in their lives. The things that we take for granted are what other people dream of having one day and we should acknowledge that. We should all have more gratitude for small everyday things that not everyone has the benefit of owning.
DeleteGratitude I believe is something everyone in this would could have a bit more of but for sure something I value greatly in my own life. So many people nowadays have become incredibly materialistic and tend to forget what really matters in life. Everyone including myself needs to be more thankful for the things we have such as food water and shelter. Although those things may seem simple to us, for many, they are not. I consider myself lucky to have the things that I have. I am grateful for the opportunity to have a job and make money to buy things I want to or purchase gifts for others. Envy has such a large role in society anymore because of social media. I think instead of always being jealous of others for the things they have or sad about the things we do not have, everyone should take a more positive outlook and have more gratitude in life.

Gratitude is an important trait that everyone should try to work for everyday. We all have something we should be grateful for. Whether it's somethings big or small. To many people now a days look at the negatives in their lives. They focus on what they don't have and don't appreciate what they do have. They're are many people in the world who really don't have much and every day is a struggle. We should appreciate how great our lives really are and help out others who are struggling. There are many great things in this world we should be grateful for. People need to keep working to be more grateful for everything we have, including me.
ReplyDeleteReading this blog post and thinking about gratitude genuinely makes me happy. I think there is something to be said about being able to recognize the good in your life, and the peace it can bring you. I have known my whole life that I am a very privileged individual, with hardworking parents that provide for my needs as well as my wants. This value is something that my parents have definitely instilled in me because it is important to appreciate the things you have due to some else's time and effort. I will always be beyond grateful for them, everything they do for me, and everything they've taught me. I also think I may not want for things because I am busy and just genuinely don't have time to think about it. I am grateful for this too because I think it forces me to focus my free time on more important things, like hanging out with my friends, and I generally this to be a more value use of my money. One thing that I need to be more grateful for are the stressful parts of my life. I think its easy to be grateful for something visible and tangible. Its even easier to complain about inconveniences, despite that I know eventually it will make me a better person.
ReplyDeleteI have so much gratitude for everything in my life. Even the little things. I think a lot of people are not grateful for the things they have, but not only things like phones, cars, televisions etc, but things like a family and friends. I have recently looked at a lot of things I have and realized how lucky I am to have them. I realize that there are people out there that don't have what I do. I think there needs to be more of that gratitude in our world today. We take so much for granted and we don't even realize it. I always make sure that I recognize how lucky I am to have the family I do, friends, the other luxuries that I have. I think it is good for us to appreciate the things we have because in the long run it will make us better people.
ReplyDeleteI think gratitude is important because it makes you feel much better than being envious or greedy. Sure, buying something new might give you satisfaction for a little bit, but eventually it will go away. Many people fall into the pattern of buying things that will keep them satisfied for a little, and then buying more when the feeling inevitably goes away. On the other hand, being grateful and thankful not only makes you happy, because you realize you are satisfied with what you have, but it also makes everyone around you happy. Your friends and family would much prefer to know someone who is kind and loving rather than envious and greedy- I know I would. For me, I am always grateful to have good friends and a loving family. I'm grateful that I have gotten to do things I love with people I love. Of course I am grateful for material things, and consider myself lucky to be able to live comfortably. It's pretty hard to feel grateful right now- I feel much more like whining, but that is not going to fix it. You just have to keep your chin up and work to get better.
ReplyDeleteI believe that people don't understand the importance of gratitude. People are always thinking about following trends and getting the newest version of something. People will always try to get the best things in life over what they really need. They need to focus more one what they need than what they want. People need to acknowledge the things they already have and be thankful that they have it. Not everyone can enjoy the things that others have. Most people are thankful for the things that truly matter like family and friends.
ReplyDeleteGratitude is very important to me in my life. This year, I have been especially grateful for my family, friends, health, and many more things. I am also appreciative of the opportunities I have received, the education I have been provided with, and the people in my life that have allowed me to grow and succeed. I have always been taught to be grateful for everything I have. I am always trying my best to be grateful and recognize how fortunate I am, but I think that I do not fully express gratitude. I often take things for granted, such as having a house or even food. I know that I am grateful for these things, but I feel that I do not express my gratitude enough. For example, if I receive a gift from someone during the Christmas season, I will always tell them how grateful and appreciative I am. However, I tend not to think about the things I take for granted. I believe that a lot of people struggle with gratitude more than others. Many of these people are materialistic and are always wanting something new. It seems that they do not fully express gratitude because they constantly want more. I believe that this is especially true today. Instead of focusing on materialistic things, we should be focusing on expressing our gratitude for the things we have and are lucky enough to have in the first place. We should be able to understand and recognize how fortunate we are and always express our gratitude.
ReplyDeleteI would consider myself a generally grateful person, although like many others there are times when I struggle. When I notice myself wishing I had something, I always remind myself of everything that I DO have that others aren't as fortunate as I am to have. These things can be things that I normally wouldn't consider myself lucky to have such as a home as well as family and friends who care for me. Other people are less fortunate than I am, and don't have those things or even food and clothes. When I become ungrateful I think of this and remind myself that I am incredibly fortunate to have what I have. At a time like this it is easy to see us taking our health for granted while many others have become very sick or died because of Covid-19. I will continue to make sure to be grateful for what I have in my life, and try not to focus on what I do not have.
ReplyDeleteLuke Sykes
ReplyDeleteI would like to think of myself as a person that has gratitude and I am a grateful person. I try not to let negativity effect me and I know it is definitely hard at some points but I think I do a good job of it. I do wish for a lot of things that others have because I see it almost all the time but I tell myself not to. I try to tell myself be grateful for what I have in my life and if I really want that thing, go work for it. To me the things in my life I wish I appreciated more and that is something I would like to work on. I am grateful however for my family definitely and my close friends. Material things aren't what comes to mind when I think of grateful. It is my family and friends. This year has been especially tough but it has helped me realize what these people really mean to me and how I should be thankful everyday for them.
I think always being mindful and thankful is a struggle for everyone, no matter who it is. I think social media is a big cause of kids my age not being happy with what they have because they see what celebrities have. While I try think to consciously think about what I'm grateful for it is hard both because of the people I look up too and simply because of today's culture. With advertisements everywhere, you always see stuff you want and forget that you already have so much you like. My mom reminds me about that a lot when she says "You always want new clothes and don't wear the ones I buy you." She's right because all that other stuff is a want and not a need especially since I already have so much. While we might look at celebrities and think "wow I want what they have", there are some kids out there that look at us and say they want what WE have. That really reminds me how fortunate I am to have a house, plenty of clothes, a phone, and the opportunity to go to school. I'm not the best at remembering to be grateful all the time but it is definitely something I want to work to be mindful of.
ReplyDeleteI think that nowadays things are so expected we forget to be thankful. I don't think lack of gratitude is always equivalent to ungratefulness its just expectations are higher. However I have met people who have a bratty attitude about their expectations. While certain things are expected like manners from your server at a restaurant we should still thank them. We should be thankful that we are being taken care of at said restaurant because while the bare minimum for a server is proper etiquette, we should give the bare minimum to say thank you and use our manners as well. My parents made sure that my brother and I always used our manners and our respect towards others. Your thankfulness/manners can make a difference on someone's entire day. As a minimum wage worker, I have experienced this first hand. While it is my job and getting paid to make your food, it can make my night when someone is really appreciative. Working a job can really make you realize what the other side is experiencing and can remind you of how difficult people are. While some out there have high expectations and low gratitude, I don't think people are always ungrateful they are just forgetful. Now is the time to r remember how lucky our lives are and to be thankful for our lives.
ReplyDeleteEvery day I try to think of one thing I am grateful for or one good thing that happened that day. It helps me remember that there's good in every day, no matter what happened. Sometimes I forget how lucky and fortunate I am until something happens that reminds me. For example, until the corona virus hit, I didn't realize how important good health was. I'm very grateful for my family and friends who make my life better. They are always there to support me. Clean water and food are also some things to be grateful for. Materialistic things might make someone happy for a little while, but in the long term someone's happiness does not depend on them. Everyone always has something to be grateful for and everyone would be much happier if they focused on those things. There is always going to be someone who has something better than you so it's better to focus on what you do have and not be envious of what others have.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm very grateful for the things I have. I also believe gratitude is very important and valued. I always try to accept the bare minimum. Practicing not getting your hopes up helps a lot, if you do not expect something grand, you won't be upset when it's not received. I work on humbling myself and trying not to brag about the things I have. I realize that someone will always have it worse or better. This year, I'm most thankful for my friends and family. I'm also thankful that I'm still here and get to wake up every morning and live this beautiful life. My friends are my rock and I don't know what I'd do without them. This year has been hard for everyone. I think that we should be thankful for the things we have now and hope that next year treats us better.
ReplyDeleteI definetly feel like their is not enough graditude in the world today. Everybody is always jealous of what everybody else has and everybody is always looking to have something better then everyone.I feel like people are never grateful for what they have and they always want the newest and best thing. I think I am always grateful for what I have in my life. I always try to accept what I have and be grateful for what I have in my life even though it may not be the biggest and greatest thing. I always try to practice being postive in every situation no matter what. I always try to work on being humble all the time becasue I realize that people not may be as fortunate. I am very thankful for a lot of thing. I am thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful for being healthy all throught covid. I am thankful that I am able to live life still and wake up every morning healthy. I am thanful that I have food and water in my house and a food over my head. I feel like we should all just be thankful for what we are becasue this year has been very hard for everyone. I feel like we should all just have gratitude and be thankful that we are alive to live the next day.
ReplyDeleteGratitude can be overlooked and forgotten about. Most people today, myself included aren't grateful for the things we have. Personally I have a lot to be grateful for. A wonderful family, amazing friends, and a light workload for school. I don't need to worry about food on the table or if we have enough money to pay for tuition. Gratitude is becoming a thing of the past in our nation. We don't care about others anymore and we're always looking for something more.
ReplyDeleteI am very grateful person. I have so much to be grateful for in my life. My friends, my family and education are the 3 things im most grateful for. Throughout life I have realized that it is important to be grateful for the little things. Take apreciation for the little things that make you happy in life. Not everyone is able to have the things that we have in our lives so that is why its important to apreciate the little things. Things as little as having 3 meals a day. Not everyone is fortunate enough to provide 3 full meals for their family everyday. Sometimes I lose site of all that I have to be grateful. I also think it is important to take time to thank and apreciate everything that people do for you in your life and to show your gratitude towards them. It is important to not get carried away in material goods because there is more important things in life to be focused on. All I have now I am grateful for, and will continue to be grateful for.-Kevin Green
ReplyDeleteI always try to be grateful for what I have. I always thank God for what I am thankful for each day. I am grateful for many things including my family, my life itself, and many more things. There are also the little things to be grateful for. Some of those little things are food, health, and water. Not everyone is as lucky as other people and they struggle in life. That is why we should be grateful for the lives we live. This year, things have been tough for millions of people because of Covid. Everyone should be thankful for what we have and live our lives to the fullest.
ReplyDeleteThese days it is so common for people to be greedy and ungrateful. Some people just become so obsessed over material items and having the newest things, that they forget what's really important in life. I always remember to be grateful for all the opportunities that I am given. There are so many things that I never have to worry about that others do. For example, where my next meal is coming from or school. I am so blessed that I know I will always have food and a roof over my head and access to a good education. I am also so grateful that I have a great family that loves me and cares about me.
ReplyDeleteIn our world today I think we lack gratitude a lot. Everyone is so concerned with what other people have and don't realize what is sitting right under their own nose. I will admit I am guilty of this sometimes to, but I try my best to give thanks where it is deserved. I am grateful for a lot personally. I am grateful for first off my family. My mom does countless things for me from making me food to picking me up from places ,and buying me things. My dad puts the food on our table and for that I am forever grateful. my brother and sister are always there to help me too. I am grateful for all my friends because they do so much for me too. I am also grateful for living in the USA and having the freedom that some people still fight for everyday. -AidanSylvester
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on the topic of gratitude is that I feel that this day in age people don't focus on it and instead focus on the bad parts of the situation that we are in. I also feel like people need to be more grateful for the little things in life because those little things cause the big things in life to happen. I am grateful for being able to spend more time with my family because of Covid. I am also thankful for the people who help us in these troubling time like the police and firefighters. Another thing that I am grateful for is that the schools and teachers are trying there hardest to help us get a good education while Covid is still around.

Materialistic obsessions tear people away from the greater picture of life. No single person will ever be fully satisfied with what they have if buying the most expensive and high-end materials is their main focus in life. We only have one life to live and it’s necessary to live it to the best of our ability. Buying the latest and greatest cars, clothing, shoes, bags, phones, etc seems to be what’s most important today. We have to look past the infatuation for new things and start appreciating what we already have. I can admit that in the past I hadn’t always been very grateful for what I had. I am more aware of how lucky I am to receive an education, attend school, and live in a healthy environment. Someone very close to myself and my family instilled in me the importance of gratitude. She has an umbrella tattoo on her right wrist to serve as a reminder to always stay grounded and grateful. I am very grateful this year for my family, close friends, and the opportunities that I have.

Gratitude is a very important thing in life. I would like to think that I am a very positive person. I am very grateful for everything I have in my life and all of the opportunities I have been given. I am very thankful to have very supportive friends and family. I am very grateful for all of the things that my parents provide me with and all of the sacrifices they take for me. I think gratitude is especially important in this day and age. A lot of people take things that they have for granted. Social media definitely plays a huge factor on this topic. a lot of people see what others have and often think that what they have isn't good enough. It is very important to not get carried away in material goods. There are so many more important things in life that we should be grateful for.
ReplyDelete-Mia Delmoro
I am very grateful for everything that I have in my life but I sometimes forget how lucky I am. I am thankful for my family that gets along most of the time, my amazing friends, the school I go to, and for having a relatively easy life. My parents worked really hard so that my siblings and I could have a good life and I'm thankful because I know not everyone has this. I agree that some people focus more on money and material things because they have a false idea of happiness. They think these things will make them happy but really these people are often the most lonely and most unhappy. We should be thankful for the relationships we have and the basic necessities that allow us to live a good life. Happiness will never come from material objects or money.
ReplyDelete-Kristina Rist
I think a lot of people forget that not everyone has it as easy as others. They forget to be grateful for what they have and the life they live. Throughout my life, I have matured and realized that materialist things like having the newest pair of shoes or getting a new outfit or even my social media following, do not matter. In my opinion, many people take those few examples too seriously and forget everything else in their lives that they should be grateful for. Like waking up everyday, having food to eat all day, a phone to text friends on, where you live, and so on. I always remember those things and many more in times when I feel ungrateful. Gratitude is so important and I think more people need to know that.
ReplyDeleteAround this time of year I always like to reflect on the things in my life that are most important to me. I always like to look at the positive situation that I am in rather then focus on what I don't have. I am most thankful for the friends that I have. It's important for me to surround myself with positive people and I can truly say I am. I am always very grateful for my family, that no matter what I do always supports me. I am also grateful for my home especially after this year where most of the time I was at home. It is not always easy to look at the positive when you may be going through a hard time, but I think at this time of year it is necessary too reflect on all that you have. At this time of year it is so easy to get wrapped up in the materialistic things and what you want, but with Thanksgiving it reminds us to look at what is really important.
ReplyDeleteBeing grateful for what you have is a necessity in life. Life becomes completely less enjoyable if you are ungrateful and focus on what you want or what you don't have. I am incredibly grateful for my family and my close friends. I am grateful for being in good health and continuing to play sports throughout my life. There are always other people who have much more than you and it can be easy to become jealous, but being happy and grateful for the little you have is a better way to live than having lots and lots but being ungrateful.
ReplyDeletei think i am grateful for the things in my life. i have a roof over my head (while others do not), i have 2 parents who care abut me a lot, which some kids may not have 2 parents or their parents may neglect them. i am very thankful for the life i have. when i have negative thoughts i put myself in someone else shoes and think about their life. it would be nice to be a millionaire but i am not. and that is okay because i have everything i need. ans that is a roof over my head and family. i am very grateful for my family and friends. they have helped me through so much and even in 2020. im so grateful i have family with me in this crazy year, definitely the craziest year ive ever been alive for. in conclusion, im so thankful for family and friends and most of all im grateful for the live i have been given.
ReplyDeleteI feel everyone should have gratitude especially for those who need not to worry about money, food, or housing. In this day of age though some people take for granted what they have and constantly complain that they don't have enough things to make them happy. These types of people I think need to be more grateful and think of everything they have that others don't. It is good to put into perspective of the things you have compared to those who have nothing. Doing this might show that you indeed have enough and having too much can make you miserable. People who have little tend to be happier. I think if more people thought about this our society today would be different and more people would be grateful for what they have. I was taught this from a young age. I am very grateful to have such a large loving family that would never abandon me or give up on me no matter what I do. I am also very grateful that I never had to worry about food, where I was going to live, or if we have enough money. I am also very thankful that I live in a country where we are free and have so many opportunities. I will remember this year especially that I am very lucky to be surrounded by my friends and family. It is always good to remember what you have and to be grateful for those things.
ReplyDeleteI think that gratitude is one thing that is hard for everyone and anyone to achieve. I believe that it is also one of the most important things in our lives and something that we should try to perfect. I try my best to be very grateful fro the things i have and understanding of the privileges I have obtained. However there are always the new things that come out and the temptation of getting them. This is always something that will hold me back, new technology. New technology is something that can be used to argue gratitude with to a point. Yes, it helps better the world, advance and evolve us and help us to become better. But we dont always need the latest and greatest. I do think and very much agree with the fact that stuff like this really gets to people. and i am also guilty of this. i have tried to be grateful ffor everything that i have. and like previously stated i have tried to back off of technology. i am truly grateful for my family and friends. many people have been affected by COVID 19 and have split apart many families. i am also grateful for living where i do and going to the school that i go to. not many people are that fortunate so i am grateful for that reason.
ReplyDeleteHaving gratitude is very important. You must be grateful for all the things that have been given to you because there are people in the world that are not able to have the same things as you. Many people aren't grateful and take things for granted. Honestly, sometimes I take things for granted , but I am overall very grateful for everything that I have. I am very thankful for my friends and family. My friends and family are always there for me and help me when I need it. I don't know what I would do without them.
ReplyDeleteIn the past year I have learned to be extremely grateful for what I have. I have learned what gratitude really is and how it can affect your world views. This year I am extremely grateful for my family's health in the midst of a global pandemic. I try to appreciate everything that I am given in life. I am very grateful to have grown up with my family by my side and a roof over my head. I am grateful for all the work my parents have done to make sure that me and my siblings would never go without food or worry about money. I am grateful for the education that I have been provided and the friends that I have gained over the years. One of the greatest lessons that my parents ever taught me was the importance of gratitude. Many things have changed in my life but the one thing that has always remained constant is the gratitude of the family that I was born into. I believe that gratitude is a very important part of life and one of the most important lessons you learn. I believe gratitude is one of the most important things to live a happy life.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I try my best to be grateful for the life I have. I know somewhere in the world people have it worse than me, so I always try to look at the bright side of what I have. However, like everyone, sometimes materials can get a hold of everyone. For example, people complaining about not having up to date phones, not getting a car for their sixteenth birthday, and more. Truly it doesn't matter whether or not you have the best things in life, what matters is that you have at least something. I am grateful for the life I have. I have a very close family, amazing friends, a great rhapsodies group, and more things that are hard to come by, like electronics. I'm also grateful for the house I live under, the phone I have, and other modern materialistic things that some people aren't blessed to have.

DeleteI think that gratitude is a very hard thing to have. We all have so much that we should be grateful for that many others in the world don't have and instead look to the people living more lavishly wishing we had what they had. We should try to grateful for everything that is good to us, good and bad b/c when bad things happen that we regret, we learn from them and do better in the future, and good things benefit us and make our life better in some way. I am very grateful for my siblings, my parents who provide me food, shelter, clothes, and pay for me to go to PJP. I try to thank them as much as possible and be as grateful as possible b/c I think it is important to be positive and grateful, rather than negative and ungrateful.
ReplyDeleteGratitude in a time like this is not an easy thing to have being stuck in a global pandemic and having such restrictions and changes on our daily lives. I will always try to be thankful for things like my family and the good things in life. It's not the easy thing in the world though in times like these and people can start to forget what family and so many things they have to be grateful for. As sad and terrible as a time we are stuck in we need to look at these good things in life to be thankful for. As we continue to move forward we should hold our loved ones close and all the things we are thankful for we should not take for granted and continue as optimistic and thankful people.
ReplyDeleteI think it is impressive to have gratitude in the world we live in today. Many people say the word and then don't mean what they say. It is only human nature to crave more and more. It is very misleading when people say they are thankful, happy, and content, and then they desire more and more. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with this type of behavior, but I do think it is very hypocritical. However, I believe it is tough to be content, primarily when social media exists and people are frequently showing off their material purchases. This gets me into the next part of the question being grateful. I, like most people, am thankful for what I have. While I still like to achieve more and become the best I can be, I am grateful for what I have. I am very blessed and thankful for having a loving family, good faith, and that I am generally positive. I think you can still be grateful for what you have, but you can also want to achieve more. The issue is when you start to covet others' possessions and when you become greedy.
ReplyDeleteOver this last year I have realized how important gratitude is. At times we forget what gratitude is and what it means. There is so much we have and constantly want more and more things. Those things can be materialistic or personal. We can easily get carried away and not remember all the other people around the world who are less fortunate. I am guilty of not being aware of how much I have and how fortunate I am to have these things. There many things I am grateful for in my life but one sticks out to me the most. My family is the thing i'm most grateful for because there very supportive and love me no matter what. Other things i'm grateful for are my friends, the school I go to, my health, and many other great things. It is important to be grateful for what you have and not forget the people who aren't as fortunate as we are around the world.

ReplyDeleteI think that gratitude is one thing that is most underrated in life. If you walk down the street, you most likely are thinking about that shirt the one person has on or the shoes someone else has on. I do this too, and it is a bad habit. I believe that happiness is something that makes a good life, and enjoying what you have and not worrying about others goods leads to a happier life. I appreciate that I am allowed to go to a private school and be able to have friends in my life. People cannot take life for granted, because you only get one of them and you need to life it to the fullest. That's why I believe that gratitude is a big thing in life.
I have been able to live a great life with many things, friends, a good family, and a good education. Over the last year I have been able to realize just how important these things are to me while in quarantine. Not being able to see my friends whenever I wanted to or even going to school something that I used to complain about really changed my mindset. I am much more grateful for PJP and the people I see everyday because I wasn't able to for a long time, without saying goodbye at the end of the year. My friends are also really important to me because even though I love my family being stuck with them for four months was not easy so hanging out with friends or even face timing was always something to look forward to because I missed them more than I thought I would. Overall, I have really grateful for my life that I have built for myself and that my parents have given me and especially around the holidays I realize just how great I have it.
ReplyDeleteI think especially this year I am more grateful for normal everyday things that I used to have but not anymore. Experiencing covid definitely made me rethink about things I would take for granted. As I am becoming older, I'm realizing that materiel things can be replaced but your friends and family can not. I definitely think people do get caught up about making the most money and yes it's nice to have extra money but make sure you prioritized your time. Having gratitude and the mindset of being positive can really effect your day and make other peoples day. Everyday I am thankful to have my family and friends to talk too and to be able to do everyday things.
ReplyDeleteThanksgiving is the time when everyone stops to think about what they are thankful for and we try to show gratitude. My family adopts a family to provide Thanksgiving dinner for each year. I often think about how grateful I am when I know we will have a Thanksgiving feast, but then I realize there are others right in our community who struggle to eat. I am extremely grateful for my parents and family who support me throughout the year. I often take for granted how lucky I am and realize the material things are not what is important. This year we know our holidays will be different. I am grateful to have family and friends to share Thanksgiving and create new memories. As we approach Christmas, we need to stop and remember, the material things will not be here forever, it's family and the ability to be together and create memories.

DeleteI think that gratitude is very important for people to have, but most of us don’t truly appreciate all that we have or recognize how fortunate a lot of us are. Even if life sucks at some points in your life, it is still important to recognize all you have and be thankful for it, even if you don’t recognize it in that moment. Normally when I am at a point when life sucks I don’t think about all I have and I’m suddenly ok, I normally think about all that’s going wrong and the negative sides of everything, and I believe most people do. I do appreciate all the things I have, but I don’t recognize it enough. I am grateful for my family, even if they’re annoying at times, I am grateful for my friends, and I’m grateful for my luxuries that I don’t need but still have. I’m grateful that I have a plan for where I’m going and what I’m doing when I’m older. I’m very lucky and privileged to have the life I do and I owe it to the people around me.

DeleteThere are times in my life where I may not be the happiest but I help others be happy. The more I can make others happy the more I can become happy. Sometimes gratitude can be non existence in the world. I am grateful for my family and friends. The friends that I have make me somewhat happy. I am grateful for being in the United States of America. I am grateful that my family could help raise me to who I am. I am grateful that I have been able to attend Catholic School all my life. All of these and the many more I am and will ever be thankful for. - Ryan Ferdock
ReplyDeleteI think gratitude is a very important thing to have. I am grateful for the things and people I have in my life. I consider myself very luck to have the friends I have. People in general, myself included, need to do a better job of showing their gratitude. I think most people are gracious for what they have they just don't always show it so they come of as ungrateful. For example I just said how grateful I am for my friends but I honestly can't remember when the last time I told them that.
ReplyDeleteI try to be grateful in the world most of the time, and I believe that I am fairly good at it. At times, I know that I can act or seem ungrateful, despite the fact that I try to be grateful. There is not much gratitude in the world these days, as too many people don't care as much as they should. People are always asking for more instead of being thankful and grateful for what they have. I am very grateful for everything I have and that I have a family who sends me to such a great school and puts a roof over my head. I am grateful for the people that I know and that care. I am truly grateful for everything that I have and I will always be. I will admit, sometimes I can be ungrateful but I try my best not to be. I really am thankful for these things and everything else I have to be grateful for. Others need to realize that life isn't about getting more, it is about being grateful for what you have. That is really the good mindset and personality to have in the world today.
ReplyDeleteI always try to be a grateful person. I understand that the way I am growing up, I have been given better opportunities than a lot of people have had. I am grateful that I have been giving a great education and lots of family and friends that love and support me. I am also grateful for my health, especially during this pandemic. My parents work hard to be able to provide for our family and spend money to buy new clothes or do something fun with friends. Everyone can be ungrateful at times, but deep down inside you know to try and be grateful for everything we have because most people don't have as much as we all do.
ReplyDeleteI am very grateful for everything that I have going for me. I'm grateful to live in a free country, with access to education, and food. I feel like a lot of people forgot how lucky they are to live in the United States of America. So many other countries have it way worse with things like actual civil war, and slavery, and I am grateful that my country does not have that. I am grateful to be healthy again, and that my family and friends are healthy. I'm grateful for my dog because he is super chill. I'm also grateful that my gym is still open. I am grateful for the internet because it provides me with endless entertainment. It is a good thing be grateful for all that you have, because it bring satisfaction to your life.
ReplyDeleteI see gratitude as one of the most important things in life. I would like to thank all the people that have helped me become who I am today. Thanksgiving is a very important time of the year to be grateful to everyone around you. However we should be grateful to people all the time. I am very thankful and my friends. My family has helped me through everything, and they mean so much to me. I will always be thankful for everyone in my family, and everything they do to me. I am thankful for my friends because my friends are the ones that keep me going. I think that we should tell everyone how much we care about them more often.
ReplyDeletealthough I may forget how good I have it with my education, house, and people around me, I try to remember sometimes I need to be more grateful for this and the little things. Not everyone knows if they’re going to be able eat that day or be able to pay their bills but many people in poor situations can still find ways to be grateful with the family around them. I tend to take advantage of the ability to get an education or play a sport because it’s something that’s common in America but many people don’t get a chance to do these things so I try to sit back and think about how grateful I really am to have freedom and opportunities. I’m grateful that I can have gifts for Christmas and be able to give back.I will try to think of the people who
ReplyDeleteDon’t have access to medical care or are able to go to the beach and be grateful for the little things.
Gratitude is one of the most important things to have in life. Gratitude is something that I want to have because I want to thank the people that have helped me to become the man I am today. We should be telling people how much we appreciate them all the time not. I am thankful for my family for more things in my life. They give me everything I want and I man sure that I show my gratefulness. In life you don't always get everything handed down and so you must appreciate it. I think I have mastered the gratitude aspect of me as that I always say thank you. Thanksgiving is the time of gratitude as that we are always thanking others for their help. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays as that we always have others to celebrate with.

In the world we live in today, many people take things for granted such as moments with friends, time with family, and even days in school. I always try my best to make everything out of the situations I am given so that later down the road I can be grateful for how I made that situation better. I always am grateful for the simple things that I get to experience or receive in life. For example, beautiful moments I get to spent with my friends. I don't get to hang out with them as often as I use to but when I do I make the most of the moment. I also am grateful for the beautiful sunsets that make my day better. I always try to remember to enjoy the little things I get out of life and to try to help others be grateful for the little things as well. I am hoping that people have opened their eyes during these hard times to see all the good things they should be grateful for that they can't experience as much anymore.
ReplyDeleteI try to be grateful for everything in my life, but like many people I do sometimes take things for granted. I, like many other people, sometimes do care too much about things that in the end are not so important. I am very grateful to have the things that I do and to be able to go to such a great school. I know that I may not show it as much as I should but I truly am grateful. People do get wrapped up into the materials of the world around us and forget to appreciate the things that we do have. We all need to realize that life is not about having the nicest things its about being happy with your life no matter what you have. More people need to have this same understanding and it would most likely put a lot of problems behind us.
ReplyDeleteIn life it can be hard to take a step back and appreciate the work you've done because we can get caught up in the grind of wanting more and more. We have to realize that all of our hard work is actually doing something. Thanksgiving is a perfect time to take time off, take a break from all the noise, and spend time with family. I am most grateful for my family because they have all taught me valuable lessons or just things I should know in general. Each of my brothers play a very important role in my life. Nick, my oldest brother, has taught me to just do it. He puts his nose down and works unbelievably hard for what he wants. Andrew has taught me not to take life for granted and also how it feels to connect with someone on a deeper level. Brandon was by far the hardest on me, but I've learned that's just how he is. He taught me almost exactly what and what not to do in high school. It was cool to spend my freshman year with him and we even had a class together. My parents obviously did all of the heavy lifting, but with everyone together I learned a lot and I can see that as an advantage of being the youngest.

I feel like it can sometimes be hard to be grateful for what we have when we see others with better. We see people with things or situations we don't have and we wish we had it. Reality is, there is always someone that is doing better than you, but there is also somebody in a worse position than you are. Because of this, I try to remain grateful for everything I have in my life. Of course I'll always see something that someone has that I may want, but at the same time someone is looking at you saying the same thing, and you don't even think twice about it. It happens to everyone, and that is what the holiday seasons coming up are all about. They remind us to be grateful for what we have, even if it isn't a whole lot. I am grateful for everything I have in my life and I will try to stay mindful of it, even when the holidays are over.

DeleteDuring this time of year I think more about being grateful for what I have. I sometimes find myself taking the things I have for granted. This season I am grateful for my parents and all they do for me. They make sure I have a roof over my head, dinner on the table, and a wonderful school to attend. They do some much for me and I think it is important to use this time to be thankful for them and all they do. I am also grateful for the family and close friends I have. I need to start showing my gratitude more because the people in my life mean the world to me. Including myself I think people get distracted by the cool things they want to buy for themselves. They forget to be grateful for the things they have. If our world were to focus more on necessity instead of material things, I truly believe it would be a better place

DeleteI think gratitude is a very important thing to have in life. i always try to be a grateful person. sometimes I dont always act grateful but then I have to remeber that some people have nothing or bigger problems in life and to just be grateful that I am. lucky enough to have a good supportive family with a place to live and food to eat lol. In life its important to focus on all the things you do have in life rather then the things you dont. I am thankful to have a family that love and cares for me and sometimes i forget about how greatful I am and i do think i should be more appriciative of it. Covid esspcially made me relize to be more grateful and not ake life for granted

Personally I think that being grateful and having gratitude is a very important thing in your life. It is easy nowadays to forget how grateful I should be because of all the images constantly being pout out on social media of luxurious lives. I then ground myself and remember I have so much to be grateful for and that others might not have the life style that I am so thankful for. I was blessed with a life in a good family, good school and good friends and because it has been all I have known that's why I think that it is hard sometimes for me to realize how lucky I truly am. I often think about how thankful I am though for the life I live but I could definitely work on it a bit more. Josie cisick

ReplyDeleteGratitude to me is something that I feel like we don't do enough. Given we do have a whole holdiay dedicated to it, but during the rest of the year we never really think about it as deeply as we do during November. I try to be thankful whenever I can, but it's still hard, especially during the age of being constantly bombarded with negativity. It's very easy to forget about all that we have to be grateful for, but remembering everything good is defintly a practice that could make us all better people. I am thankful for my family and friends and that I get to go to such a great school, and also that even though we can't be together in person, we still have ways to connect.
I agree with all of this it really is about your outlook on life that affects your mood. To be honest I try to remind myself to be positive a lot. I can be very negative which makes me think my problems are a lot worse and more stressful when they really aren't. My day can be affected by a mood and I notice a huge difference when I try to look on the bright side of things. The things I am most thankful for is my family because they are always there for me and I love them, my pets, and my home. We honestly don't always realize that we have a lot of good things in our life that some people don't have that we take for granted. I remind myself that I should always be thankful for what I have. Gratitude is a very important lesson in life.

DeleteI feel as if being grateful is a very important trait to have. I personally can tell when someone is grateful or ungrateful. It is sad when people are ungrateful and don’t realize all the good things they have in life but only focus on the bad. I would say I am a very grateful person. I focus on the little things and think a lot in general so it is always easy for me to notice and recognize all the things I have to be grateful for. I am so grateful for my big family, all of my friends, and how fortunate I am to be able to attend PJP. I am also grateful for all of my life’s experiences and for all the places I have been able to go and see. After this year I have realized how easily we take things for granted whether its something as big as being with your family on the holidays or something as little as not being able to attend a sports game. It is important to just be grateful in life and not take things for granted but even on days when you feel as if it isn’t needed, show gratitude towards it. All I have I need and for that I will always be grateful.
ReplyDeleteI am very grateful for just about everything in my life. All the good and the bad.Everything that has been given to me and everything the people in my life do. I really have gratitude for my family especially. They all are amazing and know how to help me and support me. sami moritz

ReplyDeleteI think that gratitude is not as widely spread as it seemed like it was years ago. Now with social media and everyone knowing every single problem around the world, there's always people complaining about things they can't do or don't have. People need to look around at who's in their lives and what they already currently have, and if they're still living with room to buy things they want then they should be grateful. Don't buy something just because it is the newest version of an item you already have. Unless you need to get the newest thing, just be grateful that you even have that item.
gratitude is something that more people need to have. gratitude to me is taking a look at what you have and realizing how much you have going for you. so many people are not happy with what they are given and I think that they need to realize that so many people have it much worse then them. The things I am grateful for is my family, the fact that i have a roof over my head, and the fact that i am lucky enough to be given 3 meals a day. I feel as though so many people look for happiness in material things and they want the newest version of everything without realizing how much they already have. I am grateful for everything I have been through because they have taught me so many important lessons and I am also grateful for everything good in my life because it way to remind myself of how far I come. I am grateful for those who have left my life and those who stayed because one way or another they taught me something.

DeleteGratitude, like many other things, is not always being thankful for a meal on the table or a roof over your head. Though those are some things that we should be thankful for, there are so many other little things we may not realize are just as special. Having good relationships, memories, and outlooks are just as motivating and gracious. It can be hard to be grateful, and it can sometimes feel tough to hear "it could be worse", but that statement is true. Things could always be worse, so I think it's important to realize and hold ourselves accountable for what we have, what we don't, how we treat people, and what we could do better. Gratitude is about knowing you have what you need in that moment.
