Making Mistakes

"A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new." --Albert Einstein. How afraid are you of making mistakes?  For many students, fear of making a mistake can be a great obstacle to success or new things because you're afraid to put yourself out there and be wrong. For example, in my classes, many students, before they even utter a word of their answer, utter something along the lines of "I'm probably wrong, but..." Every day I hear multiple people say, "I can't do this," "I'm horrible," "I'm the worst at (fill in the blank)." Walking down the hallway, I heard someone say, "Good luck at your game." The person she was talking to replied, "Thanks. I'll probably suck." Unfortunately, this is the norm. Most of the language I hear when listening to or talking to students is some form of negative self-talk.

For some, the fear of making a mistake, or worse, the fear of failing, is quite debilitating. This can present itself in a few ways. Sometimes we are so afraid of making a mistake that we won't even try; it's more of that fear of failure. We convince ourselves that we can't do something or will be bad at it, so we're down and out before we even begin. Other times it becomes perfectionism; we put so much time and effort into something so that we do not "mess it up," and we are never satisfied with the results. This causes a lot of anxiety and stress. Whichever side you land on, neither one is good.
I've read numerous articles that talk about the current generation and how coddled you are. I'm not sure how true this is, and I'm skeptical about it, so I'm curious your thoughts on it. Many people say that parents are too protective of their kids these days, and that parents don't let their children make mistakes anymore. If their child screws up, they will do everything to protect the child's feelings. This could be bringing a forgotten item to school instead of letting the child face the consequences. It could be letting a child quit an activity or a sport without even really trying it first. It could be hovering over the child to make sure he or she doesn't get hurt or do something wrong. In many situations, children have little independence to take action and face the consequences, good or bad. Many articles I've read say that because of this, children do not know how to overcome disappointment or deal with failure. They are so used to someone fixing their mistakes and protecting them from negative consequences, that they don't know how to cope. These children end up making excuses for their shortcomings or mistakes and fail to grow from these experiences. In addition, some of these children do not know how to address or how to try to rectify something they did that was wrong. They avoid conflict. This could be problematic as they enter adulthood. Do you agree with this or disagree? What are your thoughts?
By and large, we will make some mistakes in life, some larger and more consequential than others. Despite our best efforts, somewhere along the way we will screw up. I've made plenty of mistakes in my life, more than I can count. These are personal mistakes, work-related mistakes, financial mistakes, relationship mistakes, and more. Some mistakes I'm not proud of, and some I couldn't fix. Some mistakes I tried to avoid dealing with, but these eventually caught up to me. Our mistakes help shape our character. They help build resiliency and help form who we are. It's worth taking a minute to recall a mistake you made in the past and seeing where you are now. How was it handled? Is there anything that looking back you would do differently? What, if anything, did you learn from the experience?
Please give me your thoughts related to the idea of making mistakes. Have a good week.

In my life, I've made plenty of mistakes. One mistake that kind of sticks out more than all of them would probably be me stopping playing football. I regret making that decision because I really do miss football and I regret not getting to play those years I stopped. It's already late for me to start playing but to me football was always and still is a great time. I enjoy watching and even playing the game of football with my friends. When I first started to think about not playing was because of basketball and lacrosse. I just chose to stop playing football over them which I regret. Lacrosse is my favorite sport today but if I kept playing football I feel like my life would be a little different. Looking back now, I would've chose football over basketball. From that mistake, I learned to really think about stuff like that way more than I had. I also learned to just keep moving forward even if I didn't like the decision I made after a while. Making mistake is a part of life. Everyone will make them no matter who you are and what you do. Nobody's perfect. Mistake are good for ourselves. We learn the biggest lessons when we make mistakes and we learn how to handle ourselves after making those mistakes. Without mistakes, I don't think you can become successful. Success is achieved by taking risks and making mistakes. No matter what the mistake is, I will always try to do better the next time and never let it happen again.

  2. I think that everyone makes mistakes in their life and there is no way around it. Nobody is perfect and you can't expect them to be. I think that parents try to protect their children from making mistakes because they regret their own mistakes. I get where they are coming from but I think that this can backfire because people need to be able to make mistakes and learn from them. If they aren't allowed to make mistakes and learn the consequences as a child it will make their adult life a lot harder. I think that people today would rather not try because they are afraid of making mistakes which is unfortunate. I also think that people shouldn't be punished as much for actual mistakes if they aren't repeating them and are trying to fix them and make it better. I believe that this will make people more likely to put themselves out there and be vulnerable to mistakes. I have definitely made a lot of mistakes in my life but I don't think that I would be the same person that I am today without those mistakes. I think that I had to make them so that I could learn from them.

  3. I've make numerous mistakes in my life. Some much more drastic than others. I am not scared of making mistakes, unless it is a mistake that I can't fix. If we avoid any conflict or confrontation, this can lead to serious problems when we become adults. We need to be able to fix our mistakes because if we don't address them, the problem will continue to grow. One of the many mistakes that I made was I had a spaghetti dinner before a soccer practice. We were doing a practice run for the fitness test. I ran continuously for about an hour. Then, I puked for what felt like hours. If I could go back, I would've eaten a much smaller portion of spaghetti. It is important that we learn from our mistakes because if we don't we will never grow as people. I learned that eating a large sum of any food before an intense workout is a horrible idea.
I feel like teens are very scared to do anything "fun" today. For instance, I asked a couple of my friends to go fishing with me at 9 at night. They all said that their parents wouldn't let them out that late. I thought to myself, "What happened to the spontaneous teenagers that were willing to do anything at any time?" I am very thankful to have parents that trust me and give me independence. I just wish that other parents would do the same for their kids. Also, I wish that some of my peers would be willing to go out to do something at a moments notice. I've always looked forward to doing that, yet everyone seems to want to just stay home and watch TikTok. I wish that our generation cared less about what others thought, and more about enjoying their teenage years. "Do it now, regret it later."

  4. I have definitely made plenty of mistakes in my life. I have done or said many things I wish i did not do. Some mistakes had permanent consequences others were just bad choices. One mistake I wish i never made was losing touch some of my best friends from grade school. There are two girls who were like sisters to me and they went to different high schools and lost touch. I cant imagine how great of friends we would have been today if we stayed in touch. That was definitely a big mistake in my life. I think mistakes can lead you to greater things. Because even though i did lose those two great friends going to pjp has made me meet some even better girls who are now like sisters to me. After high school I promised myself to never lose touch with my friends right now. They are people i can never replace. I think mistakes give you character in life and help you learn lessons. If everyone was perfect we would never know what to do to improve ourselves. Mistakes are part of life and it is what we do to fix mistakes is what counts.

  5. i have made MANY mistakes in my life and i am sure that i will make more in the future. There are a couple thing ive done and said that i wish i had not but for the most part i dont regret anything because it has lead me to where i am and who i am today. When i would get stressed about an a mistake i made, i would avoid it and just hope it would be resolved with out me. i would never get what in really wanted and constantly felt as if i wasn't able to improve. i learned that if you make a mistake then there is always a lesson to be learned from your mistakes. not everyone makes the same mistakes so everyone learns different
lessons and different times. Mistakes are a part of life, a crucial step in becoming a responsible person, they are meant to improve you and help you grow as a person not to push you down and trip you up. as long as you have a good mindset it is never impossible to make up for a mistake.

  6. Mistakes are an important part of every persons life, there is no question about that. There has not and will never be someone who doesn't make any mistakes. Mistakes are what build character and teach you how to overcome challenges. If no one ever made mistakes, then we would not have many of the stuff people cherish today. Think of any company, Apple for instance, do you not think that they had many failed prototypes until making the phone we all us today. Instead of giving up they overcame their mistakes and made a better product. If Steve Jobs parents coddled him as a child he would've given up, but by overcoming his mistakes he rose to the challenge and now is one of the richest people in the world.
Obviously, I personally have made many mistakes. I overcome and learn from them to overall become a better person. One mistake I used to do is not show enough love to the people I care about. I would think it was weird to show that kind of emotion but as I grew up I realized that that was a stupid ideology, and began to open up more to certain people. Now I feel closer and happier around the people I care about.

  7. Mistakes are an essential part of growing up and life in general. Think about in any sport, for example volleyball. The other day at practice, I made a mistake passing a ball. My coach told me I just dropped my shoulder too much. So, that was good that I made that mistake because I learned from it. I most likely would have kept dropping my shoulder too much if he never corrected that mistake. Nobody is perfect, and nobody should be expected to be. Mistakes are a healthy and normal routine of human life. Mistakes should be expected and understood by parents, teachers, coaches, ect. It seems like sometimes parents hold their children up to such high expectations that they are terrified to make a small mistake. This can lead to extreme and unhealthy behavior. Mistakes help us learn and having kids starting at a young age be afraid of making mistakes is not helpful at all. It is okay to challenge your kids to be the best they can be, but punishing small mistakes does nothing accept push more anxiety and possibly depression onto them. As an athlete, I've seen many of my teammates go through athletic burnout. This is when many athletes despite increased training, decline in their skills or motivation. This happens slowly and could be the result of getting pushed to perfection and being scared or mistakes. When you get to a certain level of your athletic career, perfection is often expected and mistakes are not welcomes, even small ones. This is not helpful in any way. Pushing that type of mentality on young athletes can lead of them not liking the sport they used to love. All and all, mistakes help us grow and learn. They should be normalized in everyday life and not always looked down on. Relieving that pressure from young kids, in my opinion, will leader to happier, healthier, and more outgoing people.

  8. Mistakes are something that I view as very daunting and intimidating. As a perfectionist, I try my hardest to avoid making mistakes at all costs, but as humans slipping up is a part of us and something we can't control sometimes. I agree with what you had to say about how mistakes and the fear of failing hold us back in life from what we want to acheive. I've seen plenty of times where people talk themselves out of situations or not giving things even a chance because they're scared they won't be good at it or that they're scared of putting themselves out there and trying new things. I couldn't tell you the amount of times I've made mistakes in my life. Some were small problems while others led to drama filled situations. Either way, mistakes are always going to pop up in our lives whether we want them to or not. What truly matters is if we forgive oursleves for making those mistakes and allow ourselves to move on, learn and grow from them. The biggest mistake that I have made is probably the time when I didn't stick up for myself and say something that was on my mind. There have been a handful of times where I have been excluded from things while all my other friends were invited to join in, but this one occasion always sticks out in my mind. I was the only one of my friends who wasn't included in the plans and I found out about it when I saw them post on social media. Usually this doesn't bother me and I try to ignore it, but the this one time really got under my skin and hurt my feelings. Instead of saying something to my friend about how I felt excluded and left out, I pretended that the problem wasn't even a thing and I didn't stick up for myself. I let her continue on thinking that it was okay to leave me out and now I look back at this as a terrible mistake. I wish I didn't let her walk over me and my feelings and I wish I had the courage then to confront her about the situation. If only I used my voice to say something for myself then she would have known that I was upset by her actions. This has greatly impacted me now and how I handle situations just like this one. I never allow myself anymore to invalidate my feelings and pretend that I'm not hurt when I clearly am. This mistake has taught me a great life lesson of always backing myself up and sticking up for myself when no one else can.

  9. I have made many mistakes in my life. Some were little, others had more of an impact. Each mistake I have made has taught me to grow into a better person. Making mistakes also improves our mindset and expands our knowledge. Once we accept our mistakes and failures, we can re-affirm our vision and push forward to achieve our goals.
Making a mistake is a part of everyone's life. We often become scared to fail because we do not want to face the embarrassment. I believe that is why parents try to protect their children. Unfortunately, some parents take it to another level and let their kids not even try new things. It is important to make mistakes because we learn from them and motivate ourselves to try again. It also helps us realize that we will not always get the right answer, but encourages us to work hard and try again.

  10. Mistakes are apart of everyone's life although some will be more impact than others.I do agree that parent's protecting and covering their children's' mistakes will set them up for failure. Your mistakes are how you learn and grow in life and if you never realize your mistake you will never fix it. A mistake that I have made in the past is loosing touch with friends from middle school. Will the business and meeting new people it is easy to forget about old friendships. This was a mistake of mine, I was so busy and happy making new friends I began to loose some old friends. I handled this by making efforts to still reach out and make plans with some of these people. If I could go back I would make sure to keep my old friends important and close because they were always there for me. In the moment I did not realize these friendships were getting away from me but a year later I realize I lost valuable friendships. Something I have learned from this is to always keep important people close to you and do not forget about those friendships and let them get away from you.

  11. I am always anxious to make a mistake, it is not something I like to do but I know it is inevitable. I know it is completely normal to make a mistake but it is something I try my best not to do. Even though I may be nervous to make a mistake, I still try my best. I do not think my generation has been coddled, but I do think they maybe the generation now is being coddled. That does not mean everyone though, I am sure there are parents that are tough on their kids and teach them that mistakes are normal and apart of life. That how I was taught growing up. However, I do believe some parents are too easy are their keeps and walk around their feelings and emotions, when it is completely natural for someone to get upset or make a mistake. They should not find ways to justify the mistake but instead teach them so they can learn and prevent making the mistake again. I think it is really important that people make mistakes growing up, it is only natural. How will they be prepared for their adulthood and be independent when they have been sheltered their whole lives by their parents. I have made many mistakes in my life, but I have learned from them and now know how not to make the same mistakes. I often makes a lot of mistakes at cheer leading and tumbling, bit in the end it really makes me better since I am learning from my mistakes. In the moment of making a mistake I can get really upset and disappointed in myself, bu that only makes me want to do better, and most of the time it does make me do better. I believe mistakes are really natural and should not be avoided, but instead learned from.

  12. It is natural to not want to make mistakes, especially in front of others. Making these mistakes help us grow and accept that your not always perfect. I agree with what I read because I have seen a lot of times in the past and present people blaming others for there mistakes. I even find myself doing this sometimes, but I have a good family and good friends that will tell me to look at the situation again and think what are the mistakes I made and how did that affect the situation. Another thing related to making a mistake is making excuses. Like in the article, when someone says, "Good Luck!" are automatic response is, "Thanks but I probably won't do well." or something along those lines. This is an excuses for not being the best in the game or whatever it may be because you are afraid to fail. When you give this response and have a bad game, you can give the excuses that you said you weren't going to do good rather than say you had a bad game. One of the biggest issues, I think, that is leading people to not want to make mistakes or wanting to be perfect is embarrassment in front of others. Once we get over the embarrassment and see that we are not the only ones making a mistake, we can real start trying and getting used to the idea of failing.

  13. Mistakes are completely normal and happen every day. Experience from our mistakes can help us make decisions in our best interest. Mistakes are necessary for our own personal growth. If no one made mistakes we wouldn't go to school or live the way we do today. Because we often are afraid to make a mistake we will avoid the whole problem because of the embarrassment or failure possibility. This is stopping us from experiencing new things. Although we are taught how to handle certain situations, experience is the best teacher. Without experiences, we avoid new things or even change. One mistake I made as a kid was stopping playing sports. Although I dance, I am very athletic and played sports for a while. I dropped every sport I did to fully commit to dancing. Although dance is my passion, if I had kept up with at least one sport, I feel like I would be happier now. Sports at PJP would be a great way to form friendships with the people I go to school with. I am happy now but freshmen year was difficult without a sport-like connection to people. Making friends can be hard at a new school and I feel like not getting more involved was a mistake of mine. As stated above, I think some parents protect their child to much to the point where life without their protection would be impossible. I would say that there are definitely parents who coddle way to much. The only way to learn is to learn from our mistakes. Getting embarrassed or scared is just a part of life we cannot avoid. By accepting doubt or our mistakes, we allow ourselves to be the best version of ourselves.

  14. Not wanting to make any mistakes is truly natural, but I believe that you need to make them in order to grow. I make mistakes everyday which help me to become stronger. Mistakes should be and are allowed to happen. They are how we as human beings grow together. Mistakes happen all throughout History and sculpted the way we live our lives today. We will usually try and avoid different things thrown our way because of the fear of making a mistake. The only way to do something right is to do it in the first place. It doesn't matter if you make a mistake because then you will know what not to do the next time around. One mistake that I have made in the past was quitting baseball. I was pretty good at it, but I was afraid of striking out. If I could do anything differently I would have definitely stuck with baseball and gotten over my fear of striking out. Sports help to build character more than anything else, especially when you are making mistakes. From this experience I learned to never give up and not be afraid of messing up.

  15. I believe mistakes are what builds your character as a person. No one can be perfect. It is completely normal to make mistakes, everyone does. Mistakes can be great teaching moments because it is up to us to either learn from them and move on or dwell on them and choose to be upset over them. For me, making mistakes is common but I always try to learn from them and prevent them in the future. An example is I made the mistake of trying to hide my true self and personality. I was worried about what other people would think, but overtime I have learned to not care what other people would think. I learned that it is better to live for yourself rather than others around you. Making mistakes is part of being yourself.

  16. There is no doubt about it, everyone makes mistake. Although, no one necessarily likes to make mistakes, I feel as if that's how I learn something best. Learning from our mistakes is so important. Not only does it help us from making that mistake in the future, but it also helps us make something good out of something bad. When it comes to talking negatively about ourselves, I feel as if its not always about being afraid to make that mistake but being afraid of what other people say about you or just being judged in general. If you talk negatively about yourself first, its like pointing your flaws out to people (whether they are true or not) before they can point them out to you. This is also links with lack of self confidence. As for being "babied" by our parents, I would completely disagree with that, for me at least. I think many kids are age are babied and its not always a bad thing because parents just want their kids to know that it is okay to make mistakes. But as for myself, my parents have always given me the opportunity and time to realize the mistake I made, learn how to fix it, take responsibility for it, and figure it out on my own. Parents shouldn't fix your mistakes for you but just guide you. Because if parents make their kids feel as if they can do no wrong, they will never learn. As for a mistake I made, I just didn't try hard enough when I first entered high school. I got discouraged easily and didn't think ahead much. I wish I had given my all and worked my hardest at everything I did. Although I am making up for it now, I wish I realized how important it was to do my best and do well in ALL that I did. Overall, the best way to deal with mistakes is to own them rather than be embarrassed of them. Mistakes shape us into who we are.

  17. Making mistakes is in our nature, We need to make mistakes to grow and become a better version of ourselves. Many people do not want to make mistakes b/c of what other people think or if they are going to be wrong or mess up what they have going with another person. But mistakes are healthy for us and they need to happen for the better sometimes. Like in relationships, if you make a mistake with one of your friends and they are unwilling to forgive you, they clearly weren't much of a friend to you as they do not care for you and it is probably best if you let them go. I have made plenty of mistakes in my life, some that I wish I could go back and fix or make never happened, but I believe those same mistakes make me the person I am today. One mistake I made is that I quit playing soccer after 8th grade, and I was not that bad to be honest. I just did not have a passion for soccer as I did other sports, but if I continued playing I think it would be one of my favorite sports today. Overall nobody is perfect and making mistakes shapes who you are today, you can learn a lot from the mistakes you make and grow from them so you don't make those mistakes again. We have to not be afraid to be outgoing.

  18. We grow up making mistakes. Making mistakes is a part of life and it is how we learn. I do agree that there are parents who coddle their kids and do not let them deal with their mistakes. I believe that this is wrong. Mistakes are a way of learning. If our parents hold our hands as we grow up, we will never learn. We will never be able to face the real world. Parents should let their kids deal with the mistakes they made instead of dealing with it for them. Parents should always help their children out but never do everything for them. I have made mistakes in my life that I regret and some that I am glad I have made. Some mistakes were handled well and some were handled way out of proportion. Mistakes are an everyday thing. It's all about how you handle it. I think I would do a lot different if I could go back in time. I would handle situations differently or I would fix things that I have said or have done. I have learned a lot about from the many mistakes I have made in my life. It has made me the person I am today. When ever I make a mistake I always tell myself that no one is perfect and everyone messes up. It is important to learn from your mistakes but it all about how you handle it. We all mess up and you should never let yourself get discouraged from when you have done wrong.

  19. I think that making mistakes is a normal part of life. Making mistakes can be a good thing in some situations because you can learn to grow from your mistakes and it will make you a better person. I think that when parents are so protective of their children it can cause them to be afraid of making mistakes. When kids are so afraid to make mistakes they will not react well when they do and they will try to hide or fix their mistake which will only make things worse. I don't think I have made that many mistakes that changed who I am drastically but I have made a lot of mistakes. When I make mistakes I try to own up to them even though sometimes I am embarrassed by what happened. From all of my mistakes I have learned that I should just go with whatever I think is right and if it turns out to be wrong I will just deal with the consequences later. Looking back I do not think I would do anything differently because even though some of my mistakes hurt me everything turned out ok in the end.

  20. Although there are some parents who "coddle" their kids, I don't think that everyone's fear of mistakes comes from their parents. I hate making mistakes because I already have very low self-esteem, so making them just makes me feel worse about myself. I believe many people talk down about themselves or use phrases like "I'm probably wrong but..." as a way to set everyone's expectations low so that if they mess up, everyone was expecting it, and if they do good, everyone is pleasantly surprised. I remember when I was younger, like in elementary school, I would always get so upset when I messed up my homework, or even wrote something down wrong to the point where I would just cry when my pencil made an accidental mark. I often try to avoid doing things that are too difficult or even something I've done a million times because I'm scared of messing it up. Mistakes are always worse when it's something small, or something you should know how to do. I honestly can't think of any life-changing mistakes I've made- all my mistakes are little, just slightly embarrassing things like telling a waiter to enjoy their food too. I have a problem with focusing on the little things so much that I blow them way out of proportion. This is obviously not the right way of thinking, since everyone makes mistakes. We're human. I just need my emotional responses to line up with my brain.

  21. Sophia Facciolo,
In my life I have made my fair share of mistakes and I'm sure I'm going to make many more, but there is one that has bothered me for a while. It was at the beginning of freshman year and I tired out of the volleyball team I already knew I wasn't going to make it because there were a lot of amazing girls that were better than me. So I decided I wanted to try out for the junior volleyball team, but that the last second I changed my mind because I got lazy. Looking back I regret not doing because any attempt since then to do something with volleyball has been foiled. In the spring of freshman i signed up for my parishes CYO volleyball team in attempt to get back into it, but their ended up not being enough players. In sophmore year, completely neglected the PJP volleyball team all together and opted just to sign up for my parishes CYO again, but the pandemic hit that the whole season was canceled. Looking back I wish I didn't get lazy in freshman year and just tried out for the junior team and in sophmore year that I just tried out at all. I used to play the sport religiously in middle school/grade school and I really miss it. What I've learned from this mistake is to take the opertunities when you have them becasue who knows if you will get the chance in the future.

  22. Everyone makes mistakes, whether they are big or small. Mistakes are important to learn from, for they are what shapes us as a person. Learning from our mistakes will help from making them again. It is important that when we make a mistake, we don't get discouraged, but that we learn from it. I have definitely made many mistakes in my life but I try not to let it bother me too much because I know there is no way to change it. Instead, I think of ways I can work from it and change myself for the better. Although there are some parents who may "coddle" their kids and not let them learn from mistakes, I did not have this experience. My parents always support me and push me to make the best decisions, but of course, there are always room for mistakes. They teach me to learn from them and not make them again in the future. I believe mistakes, though no one likes to make them, are important.

  23. Hillary Mack,
Everyone makes mistakes no matter what. When I make mistakes I try to learn about how to not make that mistakes again but chances are that I'll make the same mistakes again. A specific mistake is losing friends when we headed to different high schools. After middle school, I lost touch with some of my best friends and I wish I tried harder to keep our friendship going. Overall, you can't avoid mistakes and you can't get really upset or mad at yourself over something small. I feel that a lot of people are afraid of making mistakes because of their parents but I try to not worry until it's something bigger. I constantly make mistakes but I try to learn from them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It is important to make mistakes because you will never be able to learn or overcome anything unless you make them. I try my hardest to not let mistakes bring me down and try to really learn something from them. Although I am not always successful, most times I am able to overcome them and do better next time. If you never learn from your mistakes, you will keep making them. Some parents make the mistake of coddling their children and it can lead to the child not being able to take responsibility for their actions. I think it's important for parents to find a good balance between caring for the child while still teaching them the consequences of their actions which they will learn from.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Mistakes are apart of our lives and everyone makes them. If no one made mistakes then no one would learn. I make mistakes all the time and some big ones I regret. We all start somewhere and learn at all different paces, so therefor some people will make more mistakes then others. It's no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed we just simply need to learn from them. No one can not make mistakes or try not to because its apart of life. I am always making mistakes but we have to understand to learn from them and not get frustrated. I do think most parents now do a lot for their kids in the perspective from trying to help but by doing everything for your kid they wont learn how to work for themselves. Were in high school our parents won't be with us our whole lives to show us how to do everything we have to learn at some point to take initiative and do things ourselves.

  26. No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. It is human nature. That is the idea that everyone must realize. We need to understand that it is normal to make mistakes and without them, we wouldn't be able to learn and grow. We often avoid trying to make mistakes by not even trying something, or go into something with the mindset of failure. How can we learn from our mistakes and failures when we act like this? Personally, I have made countless mistakes and I regret a lot of them, but some I do not regret because they have made me the person I am today. Although the immediate affect may be a negative consequence, we have to persevere through that and see how it will affect us in the long run. I agree that parents sometimes shield their children from the mistakes they make and it is not a good thing. We need to learn how to deal with our mistakes and the consequences of them, but sometimes our parents get in the way of that. I also think a huge reason for kids being afraid to make mistakes is that they are afraid to disappoint their parents. When parents hover over us and don't give us much freedom, we learn to try and hide or mistakes and avoid them at all costs. It is unhealthy and we as kids need to learn and grow from our mistakes, because everyone makes them. That should be the new norm.

  27. In my life I have made many mistakes. Are there times I look back and wonder what I could have done different? Absolutely, but mistakes are a part of life and the only thing you can do is learn and grow from them. I think it definitely worth stopping and taking a look at where you possibly went wrong in life and what you could do better and where you have gone since then. A couple years ago I made some bad choices. No one knew or cared, so it was up to me to fix the mistakes I had made on my own. I took the time to find things in my life that I enjoyed to bring me away from the bad things I did, so I think I handled the situation pretty well. Looking back on it, it I were to have done something different I would have made the decision to not do it alone, but I'm proud of myself for being strong enough to overcome my struggles by myself. From the experience I've learned that there is good in life even if you don't see it and while I made mistakes, I learned from them and that's all that matters to me.

It's inevitable that we all make mistakes, I think it boils down to the manner in which we deal with them. I agree with how the fear of failure is what prohibits us from trying, but it's important to remember that making mistakes is part of growing as a person. I think there's a fair mixture of either parents coddling their children and not caring at all what they do, or even holding them up to a very high standard. For some kids, they "overachieve" and fear failure because their parents will punish them. For others they make careless mistakes because they don't get disciplined for it. I believe that overbearing parents can lead to sneakier, more anxious children. As easy as it is to constantly self-ridicule, we should try to remember that most mistakes are normal and human nature. I've made countless mistakes, and though I couldn't fix all of them, I could learn a lesson from it and go on. I think everyone fears being in the wrong, whether they did it intentionally or on accident. There should be more of an initiative to accepting and moving on from mistakes.

  29. Mistakes are a great thing in life. Everyone makes them, it is just who we are. Mistakes are good because after you make them, you can improve from them and ultimately make yourself a better person. If you let mistakes go free, then no self improvement will be made and it will shape who you are in a negative way. Trying so hard to not make mistakes can be a bad thing. It can be fear driven and lead to experiencing no growth as a person. Personally, I am guilty of not wanting to make mistakes and also making many mistakes. I have made many mistakes and the feeling right away is disappointment in myself. However, those mistakes have shaped who I am today. My parents make me take full accountability for my mistakes, and to fix them. It is good for my personal growth, and although the immediate feeling is awful, in the long run it has a good affect.

  30. Making mistakes can be good or bad. They can be good because you learn from your mistakes. Most people try to not make the same mistake twice. Mistakes can also be very bad if they are in important situations. Say for example a doctor is performing surgery on someone. If they make a mistake it could possibly take that person's life.

  31. Although no one likes to make mistakes, they are bond to happen. Mistakes allow us to use something bad and learn from it. Everyone needs to realize that making a mistake is not the end of the world. Everyone does or says things that they wish they hadn't. People need to let their kids know that it is okay to make mistakes as long as they learn from them. If parents shelter their kids and come to their rescue every time one is made, they will not learn the importance of correcting them. Mistakes are extremely important in life. People need to learn how to accept their faults and mistakes and learn from them. One of the mistakes that I regret the most is not taking advantage of different soccer camps and clinics when I was younger. I believe that if I had gone to these I would be a much better player now. From this experience, I learned that I need to take full advantage of any opportunity given to me. This pandemic has also made me realize that any time I step on the field could be my last.

  32. I think it is ok to make mistakes in life. Everyone makes them and I think making mistakes can help you to grow to be a better person. Whenever I make a mistake I always try and see where I can improve and try not to make that mistake again. I think parents today can be overprotective because they don't want their kids to make mistakes in any way which I disagree with. I believe that parent need to let their kids makes mistakes just like they made mistakes. My parents are always making me take responsibility for my actions and will help to grow and not make that mistake again.

How afraid i am about making mistakes varies in certain situations. I am sometimes really scared about making mistakes because they can feel very bad and would impact me. However there are other times where I make mistakes and I just brush it off like nothing happened. I think the traits you have now will most likely be carried over into adulthood. Most people don't just change who they are entirely. I think that some of what I do now will resemble who I am in the future, however not everything will be the same. At the time i felt really bad about myself. I sometimes have trouble taking responsibility but I am getting much better at it. I took full responsibility and learned for the next time. I learned to communicate with and listen more. Making mistakes is all about your mental game. It just depends how you handle it.

  34. Mistakes are something no one can really escape from. From school or something involving personal lives, mistakes are just natural to make as a human. Personally, I don't think about mistakes that much, or at least I try not to anymore. When I was younger, mainly throughout middle school, I always thought about what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong. I thought of my good choices and reflected back a lot more on my bad ones. Now, I like to realize that things aren't always "mistakes." A lot of scenarios that people think are "mistakes" to them, can be looked at as lessons or just something that was bound to happen.
I believe that the mistakes I make now I was probably going to make some day anyway, so its better to learn sooner rather than later. Now that I am happy with the way I live and don't reflect back on my own real mistakes too much, I get the satisfaction of being happier and more relaxed than most people do anymore.

  35. I think that children today are so self-negative and terrified of making mistakes because of the increasing pressures put on them by school, social media, sports, and their peers. If your not the best, smartest, etc, it's like you've failed. It feels like there is no room for error. Sure, helicopter parents can contribute to one's fear of making a mistake but I really think it's more than that. As the world advances more pressure is put on the younger generation to keep being better and keep pushing. The last time I made a mistake wasn't even really my fault. But I have to face the consequences and I have to fix it without my parents help.

  36. you cannot just get away from a mistake. people look at someone they think are better than them and they think they did something wrong or made a mistake. one mistake ive made was being mean to my mom. i apologized and i would look back and say that was foolish of me because shes my best friend. ive learned that i need to think before i say things.

  37. I think that children should learn how to deal with mistakes from a young age, because it teaches them how to deal with them when they become older. When people make mistakes, they usually end in a bad outcome, but this allows people to learn from this, and not make the same mistake again. One mistake that I have made in my life was when I decided to stop playing basketball when I was younger. I didn't want to keep playing because we had not been as good as I wanted, and I wanted to stop playing. I think that I would not want to stop, and I would keep playing instead of not wanting to play. I learmed that I should not stop playing, and I should continue to just keep doing my best instead of getting mad. Mistakes can make people feel bad about themselves, but people should learn to understand that they can overcome what they did, and learn to not ever do it again. Dylan Russ

  38. I agree that mistakes are an essential part of life and therefore are a factor of personal growth. For example, my parents have instilled me with good morals but they don't hide me from my mess up's. As people, we all need failure. Failure motivates us to create goals or work on self improvement. Once we accomplish these goals we are that much closer to becoming the best/happiest version of ourselves.

  39. Mistakes are just a part of life, everyone makes them. I've made plenty of mistakes but I've learned from all of them. I believe that today's children are afraid of making mistakes because of parents that expect their kids to be perfect. Other children are afraid of making mistakes because of how others will judge them if they don't do something perfectly. People whose mistakes were sheltered when they were younger, avoid conflict when they grow up. This could lead them to missing out on a great moment in their lives. I believe that it's better to try something than not try it. My parents have never protected me from my mistakes and I've learned to be responsible and take action for the ones I've made.

  40. I agree that sometimes parents can be protective over their children because they don't want them to experience failure. It really is in parents nature to protect there children from making mistakes or failing. I personally have had many times where I quit something before I actually even tried to learn it because i'm scared at failing. There are two different sides whether you agree that parents protecting their children make them more scared of failure. You either agree or disagree, but both of these sides are right. This is because kids who have parents that protect them too much can be scared of failure, but that's not always the reason. Sometimes kids are scared of making mistakes because they can be to hard on themselves and wonder why even try. So I agree but also disagree on the protective parent situation because there could be many reason why people these days are scared of failing.

In my opinion, the best way to deal with it is to acknowledge the mistake and carry on with life normally. Personally, I believe that parents should still support their kids when they make mistakes, but still allow them to try to get over it one their own. Mistakes are supposed to help us understand what we do wrong and how we can improve from it.

  42. I myself have made countless mistakes in life. One of my biggest mistakes I have ever made is stop playing basketball. I think this is one of the biggest mistakes in my life because basketball was my life but I gave it up because I thought I was not good enough. I miss playing it all the time. But at the same time I feel that not playing it allows me to do more with my time. Today I think a lot of parents can be to over protective of their kids and not let them know what it is like to fail, and then when they finally do it leads to problems. I got lucky to where as my parents are not over protective and let me learn from my mistakes so I don't repeat them. Making mistakes is a part of life, it is how you recover from them is what matters.

  43. A person will never be perfect and that means no one out there has never made a mistake. I find that the mistakes we make and how we deal with them is how we shape ourselves as people. I know a big mistake I made was in grade school and middle school. I never was a popular kid or a very social kid and I always used to be kind secluded by myself up until 6th or 7th grade. That was a mistake that I regret because I could of made so many friends and memories with those people like i did in my 7th and 8th grade years. I did learn from this though so when I got to highschool I branched out and didn't stay by myself because I wanted it to be different then before. Mistakes are bound to happen and when then do you just have to get back up and try again. If you give up then and there what was the point of trying in the first place? So you get up and try and try again no matter how many times you fail because eventually you will succeed.

  44. Making mistakes is something that every human being does. If we didn't make mistakes throughout our lives, we would never have anything to learn and grow from. I myself have made numerous mistakes throughout my life, some big ones and some small ones. I've realized throughout my life that it is best if you just accept the mistake you made. As opposed to denying the mistake it is best to just take ownership for what you did. I've found this to be really helpful. In Basketball, I make many mistakes every single time I play, but to be the best player I can possibly be I've learned that when you turn the ball over or commit a foul it is best to just forget about the mistake and focus on the next play. It is important that when people make mistakes, to realize that it isn't the end of the world and that they just need to stay positive and everything will be okay.

The saying is ,”You can never lose. You either win, or you learn” and I believe you can read this in many different ways. I use this a lot in sports, but this is a life lesson. You can learn from your mistakes and become a better person because of it. You can never fail. You might think you fail, but you are just learning another lesson to succeed. Mistakes will happen in life because no human is perfect. That is my outlook on mistakes in my life.

  46. Making mistakes is very common and everyone does it. Mistakes are what make us human. I have made many mistakes throughout my life, one of them being not showing people how much they mean to me. I had some people go out of my life and I always regret not telling them how much they mean to me. For me, my parents did not coddle me and still do not. I know if I make a mistake I have to live with it and learn from it. With me being a perfectionist this is sometimes hard, but I know that mistakes happen and it is just part of life. People have to realize that one mistake is not the end of the world and that life will continue. It also comes down to positivity, sometimes parents, teachers, and even ourselves overreact when mistakes happen and we just have to let them happen and stay positive.

  47. I disagree with the idea that all of our generation is coddled. While I believe that certain households may be more protective of their children, in my household I have a large amount of responsibility and independence. I am expected to complete many tasks and keep my grades up. I frequently find myself afraid of making mistakes because of this independence. I am certainly held accountable for these mistakes when they occur, and I believe that this contributes to this fear of failure. I do believe that failures have helped me learn, but I still find myself feeling defeated by them. School is my best example of this, and each time I receive a grade that disappoints me I struggle to get past it. However, I am a hard worker and do what I can to fix my mistakes. This goes for both my education and personal life. The value of truth is extremely important to me, and taking responsibility for your actions goes along with it. I do my best to do the right thing, but when it turns out I have done the wrong thing, I will always own up to it. It is in personal and everyday mistakes that I find the most growth, while they are often the most painful to get through. I think that the knowledge of this, as well as my personal drive, is what helps me continue to try new things. I believe that as long as I am proud of my work or actions, inevitable mistakes should not be dwelled upon. The problem with schoolwork is that this is difficult to put into perspective your mistakes, and I often find myself feeling like I should have worked harder. However, sometimes mistakes like these are worth it, because the success at the end of the road is that much more satisfying after a personal comeback. Resolutions like these are another reason that you should keep trying after making mistakes.

A mistake that I have made in my life is being rude to my family and not talking to them. I have learned from this that you should not take your family for granted and that Im lucky to have one that cares about me. I've realized that the time that we have together will go by fast and one day they wont be there and I would regret the way I treated them and my relationship i had with them. The good thing about this is that I have time to change and be nicer to them because im learning from my mistake. I believe that mistakes are only a one time thing if it is coutnuous then it is not a mistake, with mistakes you admit it, learn from it , and dont repeat it.

  50. i agree with this. children nowadays depend on their parents to get them through everything. however i do think it is a good idea for parents to guide their children in the right path, they still need to prepare them for the real world.

i have made many mistakes in my life. but the one that i regret the most is not trying in school at an earlier age. In 8th grade everything came so easily to me in school. i never had to study and try with the work i did. so i was always able to get by school with good enough grades. however in 9th grade i was put in all CP classes and now i am still trying to recover from that. this put me in a hole that was difficult to come out of. it has caused bad habits and a me having to work even harder. it made me realize that i need to work hard and try in school even if it is not my highest interest. with the mistake i was able to learn valuable information i can use for the rest of my life. for this reason, it shows that mistakes are okay to make.

  51. Mistakes are apart of life for everybody, but any person can learn from there mistakes. There are many mistakes I have personally made and still look back on. With these mistakes I have learned what to do in similar situations. For one example I was at a party with only six to seven people. I was thrown a ball back and fourth with my one friend. Then after a while we I threw the ball to hard cause him to not be able to see it and it made a dent in the wall. From now on when I am playing I am always aware of my surroundings.

  52. I believe making mistakes is part of life. No matter how old you get you'll always do something 'wrong', whether by your standards, or another's. Growing up it was expected that I do my homework, do my chores, and then I have my own free time. If I didn't do what was expected I got in trouble, for a 10 year old this is a harsh reality to live in, the concept of responsibility was in bedded into me, but it didn't make anything easier. As I got older this changed, situations happened and it caused a giant rift in what I knew and what I now know. What i'm trying to say is it's okay the make mistakes, we learn form them and we grow to not make them again. We spend our entire lives searching for perfection. We will never find it, and that's okay, we were never supposed to have it.

  53. Mistakes are natural for a person to make and have in your daily life. I do think nowadays some parents do cottle their children and don't let them make mistakes. I do think though that they should let their children make mistakes but help guild them into the right direction and to make the correct decisions.
I think making mistakes are good for a person to make so that they can grow and learn. A mistake I remember was when I was 7 my job was to feed the fish, and dust my room. I dusted my room but wanted to ride my bike with my brother so I didn't feed the fish. They didn't die so I didn't feed them for a while. After a week they died and my brother was devastated. I got in so much trouble and my brother would not forgive me for a whole month. I then realized that if I didn't do my chores or my jobs no one will. It was a good mistake for me to make at that age because now I never forget to do my chores my homework or my responsibilities. I know many people are afraid to make mistakes, I know I am, but we need to make them so we can grow and learn. I have made plenty of worse mistakes than not feeding the fish but that one helped me learn responsibility. Mistakes are a natural part of life.

  54. Making mistakes cannot be prevented. No single person has gone through life without messing up or making the wrong choice. It’s important for people to accept the fact that making a mistake is inevitable. It may hurt at the time after realizing you made a horrible mistake but you will grow and learn. As an overthinker, I constantly reevaluate things that could have gone differently. At the end of the day, it is best to try and move on and reflect on the bad choices you have made. My Mom has always been more easygoing than overprotective. I am more self-aware of the independence that my mom gives me and am able to face the consequences of my own mistakes. I do not think I have been coddled in that sense and I have made plenty of mistakes. One of the biggest mistakes I have made is lying to my mom and putting myself in an unsafe situation. I regret lying to her and losing her trust. Over time I had gained her trust back and realized how senseless I had been. I learned my lesson and took into account the fact that this was on me. I’ve grown from the situation and now better understand the importance of honesty and trust between family and friends.

I have to fulfill and chores I have to get done. I have made mistakes but they helped me grow and become a better person. Making mistakes is a good thing, it's also a natural thing, if you don't make mistakes how could you learn to problem solve through bad situations.

A big mistake I made was deciding to share work with others and getting caught. The reason I did it is because I didn't want to let the person that asked me down. I got punished for it and I learned from it. I am trying to better myself and stay true to myself. I don't like making mistakes but I am learning to accept that it is normal. 58. Mistakes are normal, and should be expected. I have made some pretty big mistakes in my life. I also make a lot of stupid mistakes everyday. I am able to handle most mistakes I make. If i mess up too badly, then I seek help from my parents. I think this is a good mix. A big mistake I made was not caring about school freshmen year. I did not try and was failing a lot of classes by the end of the year. I talked to my teachers though, and did my best to get my grades up. I learned how to grind work from this experience. If I could go back, I would slap my freshmen self and tell him to do his darn homework. I learned a lot from this mistake. Most of my other mistakes are silly, and I have learned nothing from.

I feel like the more mistakes we make the better off we are in the long run because each mistake we make teaches us something new in the short or long run. I agree with the statement that our generation is coddled too I've seen countless kids my age and younger have issues sorted out for them by their parents when the kid should have had to face a punishment or some kind of reprimand. People these days just give up on things too quick, mistakes are part of learning something. If I had given up on baseball within the first few years I had been playing it when I was terrible it would have changed my entire life but since I stuck with it through all my mistakes and errors of the past I have came out better on the other side.I feel that if people this generation had more patience for mistakes and such there would be much less issues with people quitting sports, giving up on things, or just plain putting no effort in because often times I find that the mistakes are the biggest motivator out of anything out there. I find myself looking at my mistakes as reasons to keep pushing myself harder and harder because when I start to make less mistakes I know that I am getting better and better at something no matter how long it may take me.Overall I feel like mistakes are part of our lives that we can't protect ourselves from or we may end up with a much weaker less inspired future. I don't like to make mistakes but when I do make mistakes which I do very often,I learn from them and I becoem a better person becasuse of them. I always try to make mistakes affect me and my future in a postive way so I learn from them. One mistake that I made was I procrasinated a lot with my math homework one night and I did a lot of other things. I eventually forgot to do it and didn't turn it in. I ended up getting a zero on it. MY consequence for not doing it was I got a 0 and my grade was brought down because of it. The thing I would do differently is that I would make sure I did it earlier in the day and not forget about it so I didn't have to get a zero. The thing I learned from this was to make sure to not procrasinate on anything and get it done early so you don't have to worry about it. I feel everybody make mistakes everyday in our lives. We should only let those mistakes affect us in a postive way and learn from them in any way possible.

  61. I believe that mistakes are an imporotant part of life. Some people even say failure is the est teacher and I do agree that failure teaches you more sometimes than success. If you constantly lose at sports for example then when you go to practice you fixed wht you messed up. Then when you win a game you will enjoy it more. If you always win though you might start to think you don't need to pactice and you can slack off but this will lead to losing. People who lose a lot and then win are much more humble and nicer about how they act/respond to the losing team because they understnad how losing feels. The teams that always win and then lose will be upset and confused because they've never lost before so they figure out they still need to train and practice so they don't lose. They also wouldn't know how it feels to lose so they might treat the other teams worse and brag and act all cocky. That is what mistakes teach. They teach us how to handle losses and victories and how to fix mistakes we make.

  62. I somewhat agree with the idea that our generation is coddled. Those who are used to someone else fixing their mistakes for them may be unable to learn or fix their mistakes when no one is able to do it for them. While this may not pertain to everyone, some are still relying on their parents to fix everything for them. However, mistakes are important lessons to learn from and use in the future. Everyone makes mistakes, and many people have a difficult time understanding this. Some people take these mistakes differently than others. Maybe it’s out of fear from the consequences or too much pressure to be perfect from parents or themselves. I often place a lot of pressure and high standards on myself, especially when it deals with school work. My parents tell me that it is okay to make mistakes, however, I still find it difficult to accept that. I find that when I make mistakes on a test or an assignment, I have a difficult time moving past it. I end up telling myself that I could have done better or question why I made that mistake. One mistake that I have made was quitting softball a couple of years ago. I became lazy, and I ended up giving no effort to the sport, therefore, I quit. I definitely regret this mistake because I feel like I did not give my best effort, when I could have practiced outside of games or stuck with the sport. However, I learned valuable lessons from this mistake to always try my best and not give up because I did not feel like doing something. In the moment, a mistake may seem like failure, but I have always learned from them and tried my best to better myself the next time.

  63. I think that mistakes shape a person by how they deal with them. For me, the more significant mistakes that I have made in the past, though taken care of by now, still live in the back of my mind. One particular mistake that I will always remember is when I never stood up for myself when I was getting badly picked on in middle school. I could never find the courage to tell this girl to leave me alone and to stop messing with me and my life. I would just go home and cry. One day at track practice, this girl was really pointing out my insecurities and making fun of countless things about me and all I did was cry. I wish that I'd said something to the coach or just to her, but because I never did, she just kept picking on me from fifth grade until we graduated eighth grade. Looking back on it now, I realize that my main mistake was letting her treat me the way she did in front of other people. It gave off the message to other people that it was okay to be mean to me, and looking back, I probably should've told her to stop and told someone. I learned that I need to tell someone if I need help when someone is hurting me, whether it is physical or emotional, and I also learned how to stand up for myself, my beliefs, and my imperfections that she constantly made fun of. I think if I had gotten her to stop, she wouldn't have given me so much trouble for so many years and I wouldn't have taken her treatment if she had tried again.

  64. I have made many mistakes in my life. Too many to count! Some have been more serious than others but every single one has taught me something new. I think that everyone is going to make mistakes in there life no matter how hard they try not to. No one is perfect and that is totally okay. Sometimes it is good to make mistakes because then you know for the future to not make the same mistake. One mistake that I made continuously freshman year was procrastinating. I would always procrastinate homework, projects, and studying which would keep me up very late. Then it would cause me to be very tired in school the next day and not as alert. After awhile I realized how much of a toll is was giving me and I started to do all of my homework, studying and projects right when I got home. Then I wasn't as tired at school and I was more alert. I'm very glad I realized that by procrastinating I was making a mistake because once I learned from that mistake and changed my ways I started to feel better physically and mentally.

  65. I think our generation's social life has been protected significantly more than our parents. Because of this, we don't have as thick of skin. We get told we know nothing what it's like to... Sometimes it's our own fault, but others our parents are scared we're going to do something insane. I'll admit to making many mistakes in the past. but as long as you learn from them it was worth it. Our generation's mistakes are very different from our parent's, but it could be for the better in the future. For example: many people born in the 1950 on have at least tried or are habitual cigarette smokers. The cigarette aspect of smoking has decreased, but large companies just put the nicotine in another form. That is where our generation will make the mistake of using those types of substances that have the same lasting effects. Mistakes are human nature, but some can be avoided simply by looking at the past.

  66. I make mistakes everyday. Depending on the situation I am in I can be more nervous to make even a small mistake. I try my best to not make mistakes but everyone does it. I think that kids now, not necessarily people my age, are being sheltered from mistakes which is causing them to be unable to do things on their own or face the consequences of their actions. I think parents are being more protective of their children's feelings. There are things that I regret not doing because I was scared of the outcome. I wish I could go back and do them because I could probably deal with whatever outcome it would have had. There are small mistakes I make every day whether it is in school or sports. One mistake that really sticks with me is not really having a close relationship with my siblings. I wish that I talked to and hung out with them more before they went to college because it would have been so much fun. We are closer now but I do not see them as much anymore. Every mistake we make is a new learning experience. When we deal with our consequences we become better and stronger at whatever we just messed up.

  67. I think making mistakes are apart of life, every mistake you make you always will learn from it and grow as a person. Even with other peoples mistakes you can learn and try to prevent making the same one. I would say one mistake I made was taking my parents for granted. When I was younger I would always choose my friends over my parents. I'm not saying that its a bad thing to do that but I definitely wish I spent equal time between my family and friends. As I'm growing up I really understand how important my parents are to me and how much I really appreciate what they do for me. I am positive that every kid has gone through this and its a common thing to go through and I'm glad I did because now I'm so grateful and I take the time to have a good relationship with my parents. If someone else makes a mistake, I could never not forgive them because I'm not perfect either and I make mistakes too so I feel like in certain circumstances people need to forgive others because no one is perfect. The one person that taught me this is my dad, he always says to forgive others if you want other people to forgive you and that has always stuck with me.

  68. I think that making mistakes is important for a person self development. Everyone makes mistakes no matter how serious they are. I have made mistakes that aren't that serious and I have made mistakes that may have changed my life. I also always had to deal with the consequences. By having to own up to my mistakes it has made me a better person. After I make a mistake I try my best to learn from it and fix it. By making mistakes it can teach someone how to be more independent. The way that one deals with a conflict or mistakes can tel a lot about their character. Although making mistakes is not fun it is however, inevitable for everyone.

  69. I have made many mistakes in my life that have caused me to have a fear of failure to this day but I have also learned from many of these mistakes. A mistake I think about is not sticking to some friendships. Throughout life people's lives change and move really fast at times but I think I took for granted some of my amazing relationships when I was younger. In my neighborhood I had a best friend who I did everything with from walking home from the bus stop to trick or treating every year. We ended up going to different high schools and we are both very busy focusing on sports, social lives, and school. But I think that if I tried harder that we would still be close like when we were younger but instead we will only talk once or twice a month. I think it is what makes me the type of person I am today because I have lost a lot of friendships in my life so today I really focus on making sure the people closest to me are the most important so I won't lose them. Overall, I think losing friendships is a really hard thing to get through and to this day I am scared that I will lose, or fail, at a friendship, but I also think I wouldn't be as caring as I am today if I didn't make these mistakes.

  70. I think making mistakes are a very important part of life. We learn from our mistakes. Sometimes mistakes make us better people. I've made many mistakes in my lifetime. Some more serious then others. Mistakes have taught me a lot. Some mistakes I would have changed others I couldn't. It's not always in my control. I think the most important thing is to always try your best and it's okay to make mistakes along the road.

I agree with this because we should all make mistakes because that is how we learn and grow. We should also not be scared of it because if you make mistakes it means that you are at least trying. There are some mistakes that I made in life that I handled in a good way but also some that I handled in a bad way. If I were to go back I would change the way that I handle certain situations like I would still make the mistake because it would help me learn and grow, but I would handle the situations more maturely. Every time I make a mistake I try and learn from it and think of how I should do it differently and what would happen if I did do it differently. Some situations are harder than others to learn from but I always try and learn from it.

  72. I think mistakes are essential to the learning process of life. The best teacher in life is failure, when you make a mistake in life you learn a valuable lesson about how to avoid making that mistake again. Personally I believe that we shouldn't be taught to avoid mistakes, because they give us experiences which teach us how to or how not to do something. One mistake that I made recenty was in a cross country race. I let the stress of the competition and my fear of failure get to me which caused me to panic and slow down. Although I was upset about my outcome I learned an extremely valuable lesson from that race. Using what I learned I was able to go out and run a personal best time in the race that followed. I wish I had done better in that race, but had I not learned what I did I might not have run as well as I did the next race. I learned from this race than failure is a part of life and all the greats fail so there is no embarrassment in it.

  73. I believe that everyone makes mistakes. It's hard not to make mistakes. I have made many mistakes in school, sports, etc. With making those mistakes, I have learned a lesson from each mistake. I learn from my mistakes to make sure I don't do it again. Although, making mistakes may seem like a bad thing, but it isn't always. When you learn from your mistakes, you grow and become a better person. One mistake that I made my sophomore year I got a 50 on my chemistry test, which dropped my grade 15 points. I was very upset with myself so I studied so much harder to bring my grade up. My goal was to receive first honors of the semester, so I had to get a 98 to 100 grade average to get first honors. Which then I got a 98 grade average and received first honors. I learned that when you work hard you can do whatever you put your mind to.

  74. Making mistakes is completely normal. It can be hard to not feel bad when we make mistakes, but it is okay because everyone makes mistakes. One mistake that sticks out to me is when I started my new job as a hostess over the summer. I kept hitting the wrong buttons on the cash register, I wasn't good at taking take out orders, along with plenty of other things. Every time that I made a mistake, I would feel horrible, but I learned from them and never made those mistakes again. That is the best thing about mistakes, you learn from them, and that is why most of the time mistakes are a good thing. You have to make mistakes in order to grow in life. By learning we grow and by making mistakes we learn.

I have many many small and big mistakes in my life. One mistake that sticks out to me is not staying close to my cousin as I git older. My cousin and I have been close all through our childhoods and we grew up together. We have made many great memories that I will always remember and cherish. As We both grew older I became more difficult for us to hang out. We both tried out best to stay close and hang out but it was very hard to. We both played high level sports and were always traveling to far away games with no free time. When I see my cousin today we don't have the same bond that we used to which makes me upset. If I could go back and do something differently is to have made as much time possible to at at least text or facetime my cousin. Another thing I would change is trying my best effort to invite him over even when I was tired from my games or didn't feel like it. Things I have learned from this is knowing that when you get older things and relationships change in good ways and in bad ways. What you have to do is make as much of a effort to build a relationship with the people who matter the most to you before its to late. I also learned that time flies by very quickly and you don't want to regret not being close with a person you wish you could have if you reached out more. Some mistakes like this is a good lesson down the road when you meet more friends and is a good way of knowing how to find time to be with the ones you love the most no matter what your life looks like.

  76. I definitely think that mistakes build our character, but once we recognize our mistake it shouldn't happen again. My biggest mistake in life was not talking to my uncle more. I have a very big family and we are really close together, but when together I'm usually with all of my cousins and don't talk enough with my aunts and uncles. In the end of my seventh grade year, I noticed at a birthday party that my uncle was less talkative and when he did talk it came out stuttered and slurred. A year later, he was diagnosed with a tumor in his brain. He died a week before the superbowl. A day before the game, his funeral procession was held. I would've never guessed that someone so young could die so quickly and it warped my perception on life. Cherish the time you have with family and enjoy every moment you have with them. Never end a sentence with something negative because you may not know if it will be your last words to them. My mistake that bothers me to this day is that I was not close enough to my uncle. Not only was he my uncle, he was my godfather. I know he is looking over me in paradise, and I live my life so that one day I may see him again along with all of my family. -Dan Newell

  77. I think mistakes make us better people and help us learn. While saying that I hate making mistakes and I am definitely afraid of them. Of course like everyone else I still make mistakes. One of my biggest mistakes in life was definitely stopping lacrosse. I stopped playing in 7th grade because I didn’t want to go to a new team and I was scared. Ever since then I haven’t played, but I miss it a lot. It was definitely my favorite sport I played.

  78. I disagree with parents babying their children and not allowing their children to fix their mistakes. My mother always taught me “mistakes make you smarter” and would celebrate new mistakes as an opportunity to learn. I am a believer in the idea that mistakes can be a positive thing, however repeated mistakes are bad things because you have not learned and fixed what you did wrong. A mistake I made is I took freshman year way too light and I really put zero effort into my grades. I would probably miss 2-3 homeworks a class (per quarter). I averaged an 88 and my rank was terrible. I made it a point of my sophomore year to bring my grades up and sophomore year I turned my grades around and averaged a 95 throughout the year. Before in school I never really had to work for my grades, so I did the same thing for my freshman year. This still hurts me today because I have not been able to get into a few AP classes because other kids took their freshman year seriously and I did not. This is a valuable mistake I have made because I have learned from it and improved my sophomore year and look to do the same thing my junior year.

  79. In my opinion, I think mistakes teach lessons, which can lead us to becoming a better person. I don't like to make mistakes. I try to avoid them as much as possible, but we are human, which means we aren't perfect. I have made multiple mistakes in my life. I sometimes wish none of them ever happened, but you can't change the past. One of my mistakes was back in 6th or 7th grade. It was during a basketball game that would send my team to the championship game. I made the game-tying shot but I double-dribbled, which caused my team to lose the game. All people wish they don't make mistakes, but they happen. We will always make them, but we can always do our best to make sure we commit the least amount of mistakes as possible

  80. Making mistakes is a part of life that is inevitable. Everyone has made mistakes before, but I believe that everyone has benefited from it. Mistakes teach you to do better in the future and ultimately help you lead a better life. I think it is very important to make mistakes and that children being guarded from the consequences of their mistakes is very detrimental. Everyone needs to learn how to fix their mistakes and grow from them, or else they will never improve. I have made many mistakes in my life. Some I have been able to fix easily, but others have had lasting consequences. While I wish I could go back and never make some of my mistakes, I realize that they have made me who I am today and influenced how I view the world. Because of this, I try my best to not be afraid of making mistakes. However, with social pressure and high expectations, it is hard to not be afraid. I have the mentality of "fake it until you make it," when I am nervous about doing something and failing. One of my biggest mistakes cost me a close friend. We did not communicate with each other well, and instead of speaking up, I remained silent because I didn't want to start any trouble. However, this was a big mistake because it led to a lot of tension in our relationship and ultimately the end of our friendship. I think that if I would have shared how I had felt, we could still be friends today. I learned that communication in any relationship is very important. While I am upset that I lost a friend, I am glad I made this mistake because the lesson I learned will benefit me for the rest of my life.

  81. Mistakes are something that happens to everyone in their life. I've made a lot a mistakes but without them I wouldn't be the person I am today. Every mistake I made is a life lesson as that since I made that mistake I will probably not make them again. Still I'm not perfect those mistakes I've made will slip through the cracks and will happen again. Mistakes happen to me and theirs no one to blame but me, it's my job to make sure I don't do them again. Mistakes are by me in types of ways like in sports games or in school, like getting a question wrong. When you make a mistake you are normally embarrassed but you should not feel that way as that everyone makes those same mistakes as you. An example is on the first couple days of freshman year and I didn't know where to go. For my first period class I asked for help from a teacher and I went the wrong way than what they told and I ended up being late to my class. My friends laughed when I told them I got lost but at the same they too had trouble getting around. It's the way you manage your mistakes is what counts as that you can't let them get to your head and you must learn from them and not feel alone.

  85. I think there is a difference between a parent who helps and guides their children and a parent who coddles them, which I would consider a helicopter parent. Personally I think it is ok for parents to be protective of their kids while they are young, like in elementary school or younger. It is when their kids get into high school that I think its a good time to start letting them really experience the consequences of their action. I feel like my parents have done a good job with that and I really appreciate it. They know that sometimes I have my limit and I do need help on things, but for the most part we have a mutual understanding that a lot of things are up to me to decide and therefore I have to deal with the consequences. For example, when I was in middle school and even a freshman, my mom was always trying to help me with my time management and stuff but I never really worked on it. That was a big mistake I made back then tht affects me almost every day now. Now I understand that it is not my parents responsibility for me to be up on time in the morning. If i run late, that's on me. By having this mindset I am ok with making mistakes sometimes because I know that if I don't want them to happen again, I will have that resolve.

  86. Everything we do shapes our lives. Mistakes are unavoidable and have a big impact on our personality. No one likes making mistakes but is something we all do. I believe that all the younger generations have thinner skin than older generations. I think this is due to the advancements of technology and the better knowledge of the past. I believe that the older generations have thicker skin due to the fact that they had more room to make mistakes without everyone knowing about it. I have made countless mistakes over the years and will continue to make more but with each one I will learn more. As I get older I learn to understand the mistakes I made when I was younger and the reason that my parents disciplined me for them. I might not have always understood the reason that I was punished or got in trouble but I know that my parents were just doing what was best for me. One of my biggest mistakes that I make is procrastination. I have been doing this for years and am still working on fixing it. Each time I learn from my mistakes and work harder at fixing them. People are criticized and judged for the mistakes that they make which I find to be unfair. Mistakes are a normal human action and everyone makes them, mistakes should be more normalized and not frowned upon.

  87. Making mistakes in your life is unavoidable. You are bound to make mistakes because we are human. I have made countless mistakes in my life and looking back, whether they were small mistakes, or huge ones, its a lesson and you take what you did wrong and try not to make it again. One simple mistake I make every time I play soccer, is making small mistakes, whether it is passing the ball to the other team, or having a bad touch and turning the possession to the opponent. My coach tells me what I did wrong, or I know in my mind the mistake, and I try to do better next time. My coach always tells us "get it next time." We have many opportunities in life to do better, and even if you have made a major mistake in your life, I believe it is never too late to become a better person and own up to those mistakes. Second chances don't come that often, so you need to take them if one is ever offered. I know that my mistakes are what shaped me as the person I am today, and even though there are many more mistakes to be made in my life, I am not scared of failing because life moves forward no matter what and you shouldn't dwell on the past.

  88. I think it is acceptable to make mistakes because it is a part of how we learn. However, you want to try to make as little as possible. Just because you can make a mistake does not mean you should. I try to make as little mistakes as possible because while I believe you learn from them, if you do not make a mistake, you did not need to learn from it. I have made a mistake and, I did learn from it and would do it over if I had the chance. I learned to be patient and think about my options before I chose one.
In my opinion, it is incredibly irresponsible to coddle your child or children. That sets them up very poorly for adulthood and can lead to them not being ready for reality. People are mean, and they do not care about a random person. They make mean comments and have high levels of expectation once you become an adult. Creating a delusion of the world does not help your child in the slightest. That is not to say that encouraging rude remarks and bad behavior is the way to do it either. You also should not expose your children to explicit or inappropriate content, and you should try to keep their innocence until the appropriate age. Coddling can lead to high undeserved self-esteem. You want to do your best to make your child feel important at a young age, but as they get older you cant blow little things out of proportion. Life does not just give out trophies. You have to earn it, and you should learn how to earn things at a young age.

  89. I was always taught everyone makes mistakes. We are all human and mess up from time to time. Making a mistake is normal, no one is perfect. Mistakes help us to grow and learn as a person. Many people avoid mistakes any chance they get, but others go into everything with the mindset that they will make a mistake. I have made so many mistakes in my short life on this earth. Some small others more serious, but I regret every single one. Although I regret these, I do think they have helped me become a better person. Mistakes are always associated with bad things, but if we look past that we will see that their is a positive in them. When we realize how they will positively affect us in the future we stop thinking of mistakes being the worst thing in the world. I agree that parents these days are "babying their children" and I was taught it is a mistake. If parents make excuses for their kids or bail them out every single time they will never know what to do when they mess up as adults. Everyone needs to know from an early age how to deal with the consequences when you do something wrong.

I just always expect the best out of myself so I can't stand making mistakes.

  91. Throughout your life your bound to make mistakes and they're basically impossible to avoid. In my life I've already made countless amount of mistakes whether it was in school, during a sports game, or even with my relationships with my friends. Mistakes are always going to happen and I believe that they are an extremely important aspect of growing up. If you don't make mistakes throughout your childhood and while growing up, then you're never going to know right from wrong. If you never make a mistake and have to deal with the consequences of your actions, your never going to learn how to deal with what could happen when you do something wrong. It's so normal to make mistakes in everyday life, however some people aren't aware of that. Some people grew up in a household where they would be punished for making a mistake, or some people may have grown up in a household where they weren't even given the room or freedom to make a mistake. Some parents shelter their kids out of fear that they will do the wrong things as they grow up. I think it's important that parents give their kids freedom because if they are sheltered too much and never learn right from wrong on their own, then they'll never be able to learn what they should and shouldn't do when they go out into the world on their own. A mistake that I have made in the past, and to this day I still make, is not studying for my tests. I always put it off and tell myself I'll study tomorrow and then next thing you know the test is next period. Sometimes it results in a bad grade and my parents will tell me that I have to do better. From the multiple occasions this has happened I've learned that I should always put 100% effort into studying before a test to get the best results.

  94. Mistakes are part of life. Most of us hate making them, but in reality, we know we have to grow to like them. In the moment, it hurts, you feel stupid or ashamed, but later you can look back and see how it positively affected you. We can all hate mistakes, but you have to look at the root of that feeling to fix the situation. Some have strict parents whose expectations are seemingly too high, and they suffer always trying to meet them. Others hold themselves to such high standards so they only harm themselves, and the people around them are forced to stand by and watch them fall apart. Perfection comes in many different forms, but this means there are so many ways we can learn to better ourselves and our habits. I agree partially with the statement about parents coddling kids. I see it from both perspectives, even down to an interfamily level. While parents may hold one child to certain lower expectations, a sibling may have a much higher bar and be put in an uncomfortable situation. Do they sit back and watch as the other is coddled, knowing they will be helpless as soon as they get in the real world? Or do they risk the chance of saying something, and get reprimanded for it? The parents’ excuses are endless. One child will enter the workforce lacking basic life skills, and the parents will pity them. The other child will enter the workforce with an antipathy for those who take the easy way out, who don’t work for what they deserve, and the parents will never hear of this because they lost their own child’s trust. Whose mistake was it? The parents? The spoiled child? Or the silent one? I’ve made plenty of mistakes in my life, a few more reckless than others. One mistake I’ve made in my life is letting myself relax. I’m always so caught up in trying to make sure my life stays on track, instead of trying to live my life, and enjoy it. This mistake isn’t necessarily resolved yet, but acknowledging the problem is the first step to solving it. I wish I could go back and tell my younger self to not worry about that homework assignment, that big test, the one person I didn’t really know at my friend’s birthday party, even gathering up the courage to ask my parents for that one toy I wanted so badly. I have definitely learned I have to speak up, in all aspects of life. Because if I can’t stand up for myself, what can I?

  95. In my opinion, mistakes are a part of life and they're bound to happen. Sometimes in life we have to accept the fact that mistakes are just going to happen and we have to get back up and do our best to avoid it in the future. If you let one mistake affect how you act or how you do things, then that one mistake will lead to many others and they will all add up. Mistakes in my opinion are more mental than anything else, because like I said, one mistake if taken the wrong way will lead to another and so on. Mistakes are going to happen and that is one of the biggest things that you have to learn in life. Live your life like you want to, and mistakes are just small divots in the road that you can get around. Mistakes are okay to be made, as long as you learn from them and know what you did.

  96. A person can not avoid making mistakes in their life, everyone does. I always believed that making mistakes shape you into who you are as person. I think many people make mistakes, then dwell on them. When made a mistake, you must grow from it. Depending on what the mistake is, it can be very difficult to overcome but you will sooner or later. I truly believe that mistake are lessons to learn from. In my opinion, parents that over protect their children are setting them up to not do well later in life. What I mean by that is their children will grow up and not be able to handle situations on their own because their so used to their parents coddling them and solving their problems for them. I understand parents care for their children, obviously, but they need to grow and learn from their mistakes.

  97. I have made many mistakes in my life. I try to make less and less mistakes, but not everyone is perfect. Some of my mistakes are not serious, but also some of them are very serious. Ive learned from my mistakes and this leads me to a better and smarter person. One mistake was something very simple like hanging out with the wrong people. I changed the people who I hangout with and now Im a way happier person. Mistakes are part of life. Everyone makes them and no one perfect. Although you should try to not make mistakes and be a better person, sometimes it is good that you make mistakes so you can learn from them.

  98. For the most part, I don't see a problem in making mistakes. However, I think what most people, including me, find the most scary of making mistakes, is the embarrasment that comes after it. Usually people tend to make fun of you for making mistakes, but making mistakes is normal. It is impossible not to make mistakes and nobody is perfect. By making mistakes, we can learn and grow from them. They can teach us to be a better person. I have made many mistakes in my life, but I pride myself in hardly ever making the same mistake twice. Everyday we should strive to be our best selves even if it is difficult and we make mistakes.

  99. Mistakes help us to learn and grow as people. As long as you take something away from a mistake to help yourself in the future, then it wasn't that bad. I am more afraid of mistakes than not- I'm pretty sure no one isn't afraid to at least some degree. As far as perfectionism vs being afraid of failure, it depends on the task. If it's something I'm better at, then I'm more inclined to perfectionism, and if I'm worse at something, I'll most likely not even try it again after the first time. I would say that kids nowadays are overall more coddled. In my experience a lot of parents are overly protective of their kids. I understand wanting to protect your kid and make it easy for them, but it can stunt their ability to do things on their own. For example, when someone goes to college with no knowledge of how to cook, clean, or just general independence. People not learning how to deal with conflict can also hurt them more later in life as no matter what they will encounter some form of conflict.

  100. Mistakes I believe are the best teacher. Mistakes help show the difference between tough and weak if you make a mistake and do not learn from it you're mentally tough. Sometimes mistakes can leave us feeling sad or hurt but you gotta get back up and try to never make the same mistake twice- Dan Sproat

  101. One mistake I made in the past was when I stop talking to someone and became total strangers with them. The mistake I made was never really handled we just stopped talking and being freinds. Looking back there is many things I would do differently to prevent this from happeing. I learned to never let good people leave your life.

  102. Thinking about my past mistakes makes me cringe so much. I have made so many mistakes. A lot is just stupid stuff like saying dumb things at the wrong time. However, when I think of bigger mistakes I have made, ones that really could have changed how I am living today it really makes me think. My life would be totally different if I had made different choices. Mistakes are a part of our life and they are inevitable, no matter how much us gen Z were coddled(I agree with the statement but I personally don't feel as though I have been coddled as my dad is old enough to be my grandfather and makes the house seem like a military base sometimes.) Reshma Saujani has this amazing speech about teaching girls bravery and not perfection. This speech is mostly about women in the workplace/life but I think her main point can help everyone. She talks about how women commonly walk on eggshells to be perfect how women would rather stay quiet than try their best and make a mistake. She tells about how we cannot and should not be silent. We should not be afraid to make mistakes. Mistakes only help us to learn and we need to be making them. Mistakes are a part of life, a part of growing up. I feel they are as essential as any other important lesson of life. We don't learn to ride the bike just by hopping on. We fall and we crash and we swerve into the road until we learn our balance and timing on the pedals. Yes mom or dad is there to guide us but they should let us fall so that we can get back up again to try again harder. If we are coddled there is no determination or motivation.

  103. Mistakes are an invetiable part of life. No one is truely perfect, no matter how much they try to act it. I don't really understand why people try to promote those types of unrealistic standards. I personally think that mistakes are the best way to learn. Its how we grow and learn what to do and what not to do. Without mistakes, we would be nowhere in life. I think that everything in life happens for a reason, and that any experince is a learning experience. It teaches us to work harder and work at being a more well- rounded person.

  104. I think mistakes are inevitable. There's no way around making them. We're often put in situations that we might not necessarily want, but I believe that the universe will put you exactly where you need to be at any given time. Things always tend to work out in a weird way. I believe that a majority of our generation has been extremely coddled. However, I had to mature at a young age after dealing with my parents divorce, so I never had that 'luxury' or whatever it's considered as. Making mistakes upsets me and makes me feel like a failure, but I always try to remember that a lesson will come out of it. I think that if I continue to learn from my mistakes, I will be able to become wiser and pass on my knowledge to other people.

  105. Everybody makes mistakes. Everybody has those days. Mistakes help us humans learn, evaluate, and move on. Take history for example. We learn to move on from our unethical ways. My most recent mistake would have to be not studying for my last history test. I had no clue what I was doing, and I ended up with a 75. I told my mom about it and she lectured me. She told me that in order to receive passing grades and to look good to colleges I have to study.

  107. Mistakes are natural and should be made because nobody is perfect. I feel that making mistakes is completely valid as long as it wasnt intended. I have made countless in my days and I only regret few of them. I dont like making mistakes but with reassurence that it is only a mistake, I donot mind.

  108. I've made many mistakes in my life just like everyone else. It is normal to make mistakes, and they should be used as experiences to learn from. I would say I am not scared of making mistakes, I've made plenty and I know there is always tomorrow to move on and do better. I think we should be accepting of mistakes knowing that no one is perfect. I definitely was not coddled by my parents growing up. I don't think it's a healthy way to grow up if you are being coddled and never have to take responsibility. It is better to own up and learn from mistakes than to deflect responsibility.

  109. I have made many different mistakes throughout my life. I think that making mistakes are good so that you can learn from them and learn a lesson. I think we should normalize making mistakes because no one is perfect. Even though we may look on social media and view something or someone as "perfect" the truth is that no one is and we are all unique and since everyone is human, we all make mistakes. (some more than others). One mistake i have made is being friends with the wrong people. I have learned from my mistake and am way happier than I was then. When people own up to their mistakes, they have a much more open mind and can also learn more from their mistakes.

  110. I do believe that a majority of children in today's world are coddled by their parents. You can see it very obviously when you go out in public and a parent is telling their child no. The child may begin throwing a temper tantrum if they coddled and everything they ask for is normally given to them. The child begins to get what it wants more often than normal and grows accustomed to getting what it wants, when it wants, and this treatment should not be used for children. As an adult you're supposed to by creating a path of knowledge and morals for your children to succeed later in life out of pure instinct instead of learning that the world is not what mommy and daddy made it out to be.

  111. I have obviously made many mistakes just like anyone else in the world. however, sometimes they end up being a good thing. You may not know at the time but over time mistakes may pay off. Most of the time we live to regret our mistakes and that is okay because we learn from these mistakes which make an enormous impact on everyone's lives. Sometimes we must fail to succeed and if we never fail or never make any mistakes the success we have in our lives will be less meaningful. If we could go back in time and correct all of the meaningful mistakes we make in our life we may end up regretting them in the future, because our mistakes are what shapes our lives and makes life interesting. If you never do anything wrong doing something right will be much more meaningless. I think people should stop worrying about messing up or failing and just see how things turn out in the end.

  112. I think that our mistakes shape us into who we are. Nobody is perfect and that’s why we are all different. If we all were perfect and didn’t make mistakes we wouldn’t be who we are today. I believe that we make mistakes in order to grow and change. Imperfections aren’t always bad things. At the end of the day, I think it is more important to recognize our mistakes and acknowledge them. Then you can move on, possibly fix your mistakes and grow. Also, it’s important not to dwell on mistakes. Or constantly think about what we did that was wrong. Being the bigger person and admitting to fault is one of the hardest things you can do. It really shows how strong of a person you are. Without this people couldn’t grow or learn.

  113. I believe that making mistakes is good for kids. It teaches us that we don't have to be perfect. Our downfall comes when we don't try to learn from our mistakes. When we make mistakes, no matter how small or how large, its important that we also take accountability for it. We can't learn to blame other people or make excuses for ourselves, because no matter how much we think it will help us at that moment in time or how much it might "make us feel better" about the mistake we made, it will always come back to bite us later. Another factor of learning from mistakes and accountability is what kind of parenting we have. If our parents shelter us from everything we could possibly do wrong, then how can we learn from those mistakes? When we become adults, there isn't going to be anyone to shelter us. So instead of letting us make our own mistakes, some parents continue to shield their kids from the outside world and even try to fix mistakes of their kids, instead of letting them take accountability for them. Some parents take the total opposite route by letting their kids do whatever they want. This is, I feel, extreme. Kids need some rules within reason, but too many could lead them to become sheltered and even drive them away from their parents. They could also go to the extent of making consistent, purposeful mistakes to get their parents attention,to see if "they really care". There has to be a middle ground for parenting. Every family is different, but too much or too little sheltering could ultimately lead to kids making mistakes that are unfixable and stay with us the rest of our lives or kids not being able to survive in the outside world because of the little to no knowledge that they gained from not being able to make their own mistakes or take accountability for them.

  114. Mistakes happen all the time its just a way of life. The best part about making mistakes is that you get to learn from them. If you don't learn from your mistakes you cant get better at all the things you mess up on. Some mistakes may be worse then others but you always learn not to do the same thing again

  116. I admit I do not like to make mistakes, although I have made many mistakes. Mistakes happen and I try to learn from them. There are times when you step outside your comfort zone and fail, but without trying, you don't know if you will succeed. You need to be able to fail and determine what you did wrong so you can fix your mistake for the future. I think mistakes are a way of teaching us new ways to learn. As for being coddled by my parents, I think all our parents care for us and want us to be successful. My parents have let me make mistakes and helped demonstrate that there are consequences. Failing is part of life and sometimes failing is the best way to teach us that we need to work harder and simply learn from our mistakes.

  117. Everybody makes mistakes all the time whether we like to admit it or not. Mistakes come with everything you do, nothing is meant to be perfect. I feel like everyone makes it out to seem like you shouldn't make mistakes. I've learned over many experiences that this statement is very wrong. I think that failure is the best teacher of them all. When you fail, it feels pretty bad, but when you look back on it, it can turn into a positive thing. Looking back on past failures can help you prevent that from happening again or can teach you a valuable lesson that you would not have learned if you succeeded. Also if you are not failing at anything, that means you are not growing. Often times when we fail at something it is when we are trying something new or building upon something else. If you are scared to fail and never try, you will never grow as a person, which can turn out to be a lot worse then failure.
